Hill United faces Team Marquez in 2015 AAU Final
The 2015 AAU International Tournament has come full circle after two days of pool play and two days of single elimination play, as two teams from the same pool square off for the 2015 AAU championship.
Back on Thursday, Hill United, the odds-on favorite, with pitcher Adam Folkard in the circle, edged a strong Team Marquez squad, with a number of players from Mexico’s national team roster, 4-1. Folkard did not pitch in that one, but rather, young Argentine Pablo Migliavacca, getting the win over Sergio Almeida. (Migliavacca was a member of the Argentine squad that won the ISF Junior Men’s gold medal in Parana Argentina in 2012.) Team Marquez is the squad that beat the California A’s in the finals of last summer’s California Classic, rallying for five runs in the 7th to do so. For them, it ain’t over til its over. For the 2015 AAU, they added Team USA National team ace, Tony Mancha.
For Hill United, it was no easy path to the finals, facing their arch-rival, the New York Gremlins in the quarterfinals Sunday morning. Hill United came away with the win, 2-1, with Adam Folkard getting the win over another of the world’s best, Juan Potoliccio.
Team Marquez had to beat Equipo Sopotocientos of Venezuela for the other spot in the finals, coming away with a hard fought 2-1 win, Tony Mancha getting the win, Ramon Jones the loss. (Equipo Sopotocienos had a tough pool of their own, having to face the New York Gremlins Friday in pool play, with Jones getting a 4-1 win over Potolicco.)
