Black Sox pitching great Mike White’s daughter Nyree is set to make her debut for the New Zealand White Sox squad.
The 24-year-old former Stanford University hurler is one of seven pitchers named in a 22-strong squad for a 12-day tour of Japan in July.
White Sox coach Kevin Gettins said White declared her availability after assisting her father at a series of pitching clinics in New Zealand last December.

“We had a chat around what she was looking to do in the future, and it all went from there,” Gettins said.
“She will bring another dimension; she plays first base and hits, as well.”
White was first selected in a New Zealand team in 2013 but later had to withdraw.
She was born in the United States and broke pitching and batting records at Marist High School in Eugene, Oregon where father Mike is based as head coach of the University of Oregon softball team after winning two world championships gold medals with the Black Sox and representing the United States.
Nyree White played for the United States junior team in 2011 before taking up a scholarship at Stanford, an Ivy League university in California.
She will join established White Sox Rita Hokianga, Courtney Gettins, Taylor Paige-Stewart and Jennifer Feret-Brear on the White Sox pitching staff. Click here to continue ready at stuff.co.nz
