World’s Best Fastpitch Descends on Vancouver
The Bob Law Memorial Fastpitch Challenge, hosted annually in Vancouver since 2002, has played host to some of the top men’s fastpitch softball teams and players throughout its history. Much to fastpitch fans’ delight, this year’s field is perhaps the strongest of them all.
For the first time in over a decade, Team Canada will play in BC and will do so as the defending World Champions, a crown they picked up in 2015 along with a Pan Am Games gold medal in Toronto. Many of the core players from that magical summer are returning and eager to defend their World title at the 2017 World Championships, starting less than one week after the conclusion of the Bob Law Memorial Challenge in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The field of teams in Vancouver features numerous other national sides as they also seek their final tune up prior to the World Championships. The New Zealand Black Sox, a perennial contender and owner of a record seven World Championships, will be in attendance and are always a fan-favourite team to watch with their explosive offense, dynamic intensity and entertaining pre-game Haka.
The remainder of the field includes national teams from the USA, Czech Republic, Great Britain, and possibly Domincan Republic as well as top club teams the South Hill Giants, Sooke Loggers and Portland Brewers.
Fastpitch fans will be treated to some of the top ball talent in the world so entertainment will be on tap all weekend (as well as cold beverages in the garden).
South Hill Sports looks forward to seeing many fans at the ball park on Canada Day weekend to cheer on the red and white of Team Canada as well as their favourite local teams. Seating is limited so remember your launch chairs!
