Kyle Smith, Blair Setford and Joe Todd broadcast two opening day games on Thursday in Orlando at the AAU International Men’s Fastpitch Tournament. The Ballparkradio crew will be back in the booth for (at least) two more broadcasts on Friday, featuring the teams shown below.

11:00 a.m.
Niagara Storm Fury of Ontario, Canada vs. Cherokee, NC, USA
3:00 PM
Broken Bow, New York vs. Earl’s Club, WI
The morning game at 11am will feature ISC II Commissoner Blair Setford, but not as a broadcaster, but back in uniform at a player. While known by many these days as ISC Commissioner and ISC II/Ballparkradio broadcaster, Blair has had an extensive career as a player, most recently, with the Mississagua Arrows of the Golden Horseshoe Fastball League (GHFL), a league (and website) he still helps with. No truth to the rumor that he packed the hockey sticks when leaving a frigid Ontario, Canada Thursday for Orlando. Blair insists it was the glove and bat. He is sure to get plenty of good natured ribbing from his broadcast colleagues during Friday’s broadcast.
The afternoon game pits a couple of teams that have finished near the top of the heap in recent AAU tournaments. Broken Bow, New York was a finalist in last year’s tournament, while Tijuana, Mexico has many of the Mexicali players who finshed as runner-up in 2004 and as a Final Four team a year later.
Saturday’s broadast schedule is not yet set – and won’t be until Friday night, after the single elimination pairings are draw.
Sunday’s broadcast schedule will include one of the two semi-final games at 11am, and the 1pm Championship game.

Quarterfinal Score – Mac’s Sprayers vs. Florida Fastpitch
Macs 2, Florida 1
Robbie O’Brien was the winning pitcher for Mac’s in a hard fought 2-1 game against Florida Fastpitch. O’Brien struck out 16 in 7 innings, while Florida starter Sean Whitten struck out 10 in 5 innings before giving way to Terry Luster.
Mac’s scored one run in the first inning, on a walk to leadoff hitter Adam La Londe, followd by a single by Chris Miljavic and RBI double by Jeff Ellsworth. Florida’s Brian Ree hit a one-out triple to the fence in right center, in the first inning, but was stranded when O’Brien struck out the last two outs of the inning.
They scored the eventual winning run in the 5th when LaLonde again walked, and came home to score on Ellsworth’s second hit on the game.
Florida made things interesting in the 7th inning when Jesse Duncan singled and came home to score on a double by Phillip Perry, putting the potential tying run in scoring position. Avon Meacham came on to run for Perry, but was erased for the final out on an obstruction call on a grounder to shortstop Todd Schultz.
The win sends Mac’s to a semi-final match-up with CPI, as the Sprayers bid to become the first team to win back-to-back AAU titles.
Quarterfinal Score – Broken Bow NY vs. Puerto Rico
Broken Bow 8, Puerto Rico 1
Rhys Casley was 3-for-4 with a single, double and 3 run home run to power the Broken Bow offense against Puerto Rico. Dean Holoien struck out 10 in 5 innings. Blair Ezekiel came on in relief, but gave way to Frank Cox after being struck by a line drive.
Quarterfinal Score – Minnesota vs. Bahamas
Team Minnesota 7, Texaco Pirates, Bahamas 1
Ward Gosse picked up the win. Brian Lammers and Chad Boom both had RBI doubles in the first while teammate Jason Wandler hit a 2 run homer in the first inning in which Minnesota scored 5 runs and cruised to a Sunday morning quarterfinal win over the Texaco Pirates of the Bahamas. Rob Schweyer came on in relief of Dewey Dyck in the first. Steve Mullaley was the lone bright spot for the Bahamas squad, hitting a solo home run for the Pirates Minnesota will advance to a semi-final game against the winner of Broken Bow vs. Puerto Rico. Broken Bow is up 8-1 in the 7th inning of that one.
