It sad to see that none of the SoCal teams who are claiming to be some of the best teams in CA are not making the trip to Fresno for the CA Cup. If you truely want to be named the best team in CA you need to play against all teams in CA not just the teams in your alliance. Therefore, you can't make a valid claim that you are the best team in CA in my opinion. In fact, the only team in CA that I see making an attempt to play teams in other leagues is the Valley Lyons. So, unless you play against all the teams in CA, you cant be the best team in CA, you are only the best team in your alliance. Why don't you guys back up you all your talking and make the trip to Fresno? If not, then keep quite.

As for SoCal teams going to the cup, the Black sox is an all-star team made up of rounders, raymar and black sox so it's not even the black sox team. Raymar is going without their biggest bat and they're misssing their whole starting infield. They will probably pick up some players to fill the spots but it's not their team. I don't know who the Tribe is?, and I have'nt heard who the Amigo's are taking but if it's their whole team that's too bad because they couldn't crack sixth in the alliance. To make this a truly fair argument about who's best, the teams participating in the cup should have to take they're ASA roster With maybe a couple of pick-ups. Then we can say who has the best team in California and not just who put together the best team for that weekend! Thank you and good night.

IT IS TRUE THERE ARE ONLY 3 BLACK SOX PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM. I JUST COULDNT GET ENOUGH GUYS THAT COULD MAKE THE TRIP WHICH I BELIEVE WAS THE CASE WITH SOME OF THE OTHER TEAMS. THE 3 GUYS THAT ARE GOING JUST WANTED TO BE A PART OF THIS TOURNAMENT AND ENJOY THE COMPETITION. I THINK I CAN SPEAK FOR THE OTHER GUYS FROM RAYMAR (2), ROUNDERS (5), PALM SPRINGS (1) WHO ARE GOING WITH US THEY JUST WANTED TO PLAY IN THIS AND BE A PART OF IT SO THIS WAS REALLY THE ONLY ROUTE FOR US TO PLAY IS TO GET GUYS FROM OTHER TEAMS. I WAS UPFRONT WITH EDDIE YBARRA AND LET HIM KNOW THIS BEFORE WE ENTERED AND HE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH IT. AS FAR AS WHO IS BETTER SO CAL, CENTRAL OR NO CAL. ONE THING IS FOR SURE WE KNOW CALIFORNIA IN GENERAL IS STRONG. JUST LOOK AT THE RESULTS IN NATIONAL TOURNEYS CALIFORNIA IS ALWAYS THERE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO WIN A WORLD NAFA TITLE IN 1995 WITH THE STOUT TOWER STARS AND ITS A VERY DIFFICULT THING TO DO. I HAVE PLAYED FASTPITCH FOR ABOUT 20 YEARS NOW ON AND OFF AND I CAN SAY FOR A FACT NORTHERN AND CENTRAL CALIFORNIA ARE VERY STRONG. I WISH SO CAL HAD BETTER REPRESENTATION IN THE CALIFORNIA CUP BUT I GUARANTEE THE GUYS AND TEAMS THAT WILL BE THERE WILL BE COMPETITIVE AND A CLASSY GROUP OF GUYS. AS FAR AS WHO IS BETTER ITS HARD TO TELL WITH A WEEKEND TOURNEY. I THINK WE WOULD NEED MORE THAN A 2 DAY TOURNEY TO DETERMINE THAT. WELL GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO ARE GOING AND ILL SEE EVERYONE THERE.

** California Cup Bracket Draw **

The bracket draw will take place on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at the City of Fresno Parks and Rec Department, and will be reported in real time here at this page. Teams may be present, but recognizing that geography prevents most from attending, teams may follow along online at this page:

http://www.fastpitchwest.com/calcup.htm

Since we are doing it in real time, you will need to click "Refresh" in order to see the page updated as we go.

The draw will be conducted by City of Fresno Recreation Department Supervisor Steven Primavera.

The draw is a random draw, with a "same-region throwback" designed to prevent teams from the same region from playing each other in their first game. There are three regions, North, Central and Southern. If a team pulls an opponent in his own region, it will be thrown back to the pool to draw again.

The order that teams draw from will also be chosen at random until all 12 slots in the bracket are pulled.

Teams are reminded that only ASA "C" level players are eligible.

I had to reply to Fastpitchman!!? As for the Rounders not going to Fresno, is not due to lack of effort....Many of the guys on our team have kids, jobs and didn't have enough notice to plan for the cal cup. The Edge have played in tourneys the 3 out of the last 4 weeks. What do you expect? Most of our league is in there late 30's or 40's which means they also have lives outside of fastpitch. I for one am single, 26 years old and work M-F. I can go to any tourney anytime, but not everyone is as lucky as I am in that respect. As for this weekend the I am playing for the black sox team made up of players from other teams...so what?...lets not knock players for wanting to play the game they love wherever, whenever or however. I travel 600 miles roundtrip every tourney I play in!! As for the best teams: Rounders, raymar, edge, valley lyons and san diego can all beat each other any day of the week. Those are the teams that have the best shot in hastings and we should all cheer for them!!!!!

Just getting back from fields tonight, will update the bracket this evening.
Short version:

4 teams left in the Cal Cup tournament for Sunday:

Valley Lyons (2-0) vs. Black Sox (2-0) in Winner's Bracket final
The Tribe (2-1) vs. Native Americans (2-1)

Raymar lost a close one in the last game of the day, 11-10, on a controversial call at home plate, after leading 8-3 and 10-5. The Native Americans rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 10, then won in the 9th inning tie breaker.

See bracket for more.

Well what can be said about the tournament. Sure the black sox won, but it was not the "Black Sox". I know that people want to play, but I thought this tournament was about who is the best "C" team. Not who the best "All Star" team is. The Tribe came out and were hot. I commend them on their accomplishment. Sox, I commend you also, but remember, it was not the Sox that really won.

I WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND TO THE LAST POST

THE TRIBE TEAM WAS IN FACT A TEAM COMPOSED OF PLAYERS FROM 3 DIFFERENT TRIBES AND THAT TEAM IS GOING TO THE B NATIONALS THIS YEAR AS I WAS TOLD THIS BY A PLAYER ON THE TEAM. I HAVE BEEN THERE ALL YEAR FOR THE BLACK SOX STARTING THIS TEAM AND FOR THE MOST PART FUNDING IT, PLAYING AND ALSO MANAGING AND ITS HARD ENOUGH TO BE A PLAYER BESIDES DOING ALL THE OTHER THINGS. BELIEVE ME I AM HAPPY TO WIN ANY TOURNAMENT. WE HAVE HAD A TOUGH YEAR WITH INJURIES AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO BRING OUT A LOT OF OTHER GUYS FROM THE SOX. DALE LOPES AND BRETT SEMANS FROM THE SOX WERE ALSO THERE AND THEY PLAYED THE ENTIRE SEASON WITH THE SOX. SO GIVE CREDIT IS DESERVED TO THE SOX PLAYERS WHO DID PLAY AND THE OTHER PLAYERS THAT WERE THERE REGUARDLESS OF WHAT NAME WE PLAYED UNDER. I WAS UPFRONT AND HONEST WITH THE DIRECTOR BEFORE I EVEN ENTERED AND TOLD HIM MY SITUATION AND HE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH IT HE JUST WANTED SO CAL REPRESENTATION. MOST OF THE TEAMS OUT THERE HAD PLAYERS FROM OTHER TEAMS BECAUSE GUYS JUST WANTED TO PLAY IN A TOURNAMENT OF THIS CALIBER. THIS THING WAS REALLY PUT TOGETHER AT THE LAST MINUTE AND WE WERE ALL OUT THERE IN 100 DEGREE TEMPS PLAYING BECAUSE WE LOVE TO PLAY THE GAME. IM PROUD OF ALL THESE GUYS AND THEIR EFFORT AND THERE IS NO WAY ANYBODY CAN TAKE AWAY WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED. IF YOU READ MY WEB SITE I STATE VERY CLEARLY THE PLAYERS WE PICKED UP NOT TRYING TO HIDE ANYTHING. WE HAD A GRAND TOTAL OF 9 POSITION PLAYERS AND 2 PITCHERS WHILE OTHER TEAMS HAD 4-5 BENCH PLAYERS OR MORE. ITS HARD ENOUGH TO WIN ANY TOURNAMENT AND I WAS ON MANY A SUPPOSED ALL STAR TEAM AND MANY TIMES CAME HOME EMPTY HANDED. SO ITS NOT ABOUT THE NAME ITS ABOUT THE ACCOMPLISHMENT. IM NOT CLAIMING THE BLACK SOX TO BE THE BEST C TEAM IN CALIFORNIA BECAUSE WE ARE NOT. AN ALL STAR TEAM USUALLY HAS PLAYERS FROM THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. WE HAD O PLAYERS FROM THE EDGE(NOT THAT I WOULDNT HAVE LOVED TO HAVE SOME OF THEM). AND WE HAD 0 PLAYERS FROM SAN DIEGO AND BOBBY LARA AND DAN ZUPP ARGUEABLY 2 OF THE BEST PITCHERS IN THE LEAGUE WERE NOT ON THIS TEAM. MYSELF, JIM FLANAGAN, AND MITCH MENDENHALL LITERALLY PUT THIS TOGETHER IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I THINK NEXT YEAR WE WILL HAVE MORE TIME TO PLAN THIS OUT AND SUBMIT ROSTERS WELL IN ADVANCE. IT WAS FUN TO PLAY IN THIS AND I LOOK FOWARD TO PLAYING AGAIN NEXT YEAR
