The DeKalb Hustle Hogs finished the 2006 season with a record of 21-20. the team had many successes on the season including adding new players to the game of fastpitch softball. The Hogs big season highlights were: winning the Rockford League and finishing second at the Terry Deerring Memorial Tournament in Radom, Il.. The Hogs will be back in action in 2007 and are in the works of building a secondary team to play out of Cortland and/or possibly participate in a league.
Awards for this year Hogs' team were Matt Smith (Terry Deering Memorial MVP). Tommy Crouch, Mike Drew and Matt Smith all made the Rockford All-League team.
Statistics included:
Brian Tobin led the teams in pitching wins (11), Matt Smith led the team in Walks (1 , Hits (37), HR's (5) Runs (31) and Total Bases. Tommy Crouch led the team in AVG (.484) OBA (.566) SLG (.703). Mike Drew led the team in Doubles (11) and RBI (25). Jay Armes led the team in Triples (5).
The Hogs had over 10 players hit .300 or better and many players, including Sean Cavasos and Vince Virtue increased their Batting Average from the year before by almost 100 points. Thus, showing the dramatic improvements this club made from 2005.
The Hogs are looking forward to the 2007 campaign already.
