2003 ASA Men's Masters 50 & Over - Prescott, Arizona

The defending champions Texas Stars won the ASA Men's Masters 50 & Over Fastpitch Championship which was held in Prescott from a field of 23 teams across the USA. Organized the 1998, the Stars have finished among the nation's top five in all Masters Divisions 40 - 45 - 50 & Over. Texas Stars run-ruled the Jarrell Outlaws for the first win. Duck Creek Softball, Green Bay, Wisconsin, was next and Northwest Legends from Everett Washington for a third victory. In the winners bracket final, the Tulsa Grey Sox run-ruled the Texas Stars. Shutout victim Memphis Po-Men was next for the Stars to advance to the finals vs Tulsa Grey Sox. Texas shutout and run-ruled Tulsa forcing the championship game with the Stars prevailing 6-1. Stars pitchers, led by All-American Rick Plangger, included Bobby Smith, Sam Banegas, and Bob Smith. The MVP award was presented to Rick Plangger for his outstanding pitching. All-American awards also went to Wayne Vigil, Randy Brown & Mike Hazel for their excellent tournament. The Prescott Daily Courier wrote a couple of newspaper articles. ASA Men's Masters 45 & Over - Seattle, Washington

For the second time this summer, the Texas Stars won a national championship, the 2003 ASA Men's Masters 45 & Over in Seattle, Washington, September 11-14, 2003. In the first game, Texas stars run-ruled Elkart, Iowa. The next game was against national champions California Painters, who have owned the crown since 1998. An exciting 11 inning game, the lead going back and forth with each extra inning played, the Stars won in the bottom of the 11th with a walk-off home run from Matt Daley. The Texas Stars played Planggers Furniture in the winners bracket final. It was a great game down to the last pitch, with a big win for the Texas Stars. California Painters had prevailed to play the Stars for the championship game only to be shutout 3-0. The Texas Stars pitchers, led by Tony Hunhoff, were Sam Banegas, Lonnie Brooks and Bobby Smith. The MVP award was presented to Tony Hunhoff for his outstanding pitching. All-American awards were given to Tony Hunhoff, Randy Brown, Tom Pryor, Dan Reynolds, Glenn Lusk and Matt Morvant.
