\nWhen Kelly Grieve was a little girl growing up in this softball-mad community, all she wanted to do was be like her baseball-playing older brother.<\/p>\n

From that modest goal more than a decade ago, one of the nation’s best softball players has evolved, from a standout career at Enka High and Tennessee to last week’s news that Grieve had been selected to the U.S. Seniors National team, one of the highest honors for an amateur player.<\/p>\n

Combining rare athletic skills and a fiery, helmet-throwing passion when she fails to reach base, Grieve has reached the pinnacle of her career.<\/p>\n

“I was extremely honored to even be invited to a (tryout) camp like that, so I had fun and felt like I played well,” said Grieve, 22, a 5-4 outfielder who learned via e-mail just more than a week ago that she was among 18 players from across the country selected for the team.<\/p>\n
