We knew coming here we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d be in tough. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve been in some games, we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had some tough luck, but we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re working towards the weekend and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll see what we can do.  <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We have 15 guys and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re using everyone \u00e2\u20ac\u201d seeing who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s going to get hot first and who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s playing well defensively and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll come up with a lineup Saturday that hopefully will have a winning combination there.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Besides coaching, the 44-year-old Lannon also plays first base for the Twiliters.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I had a couple at bats there (on Tuesday) just to get on the official scoreboard for the nationals. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going with a youth movement towards Saturday.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>He and a few of the senior team members won a bronze medal in the 35-and-over division at the World Masters Games last year in Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Out of that came this team. This is just our first time on the senior A circuit, and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re getting our feet wet like we knew we would. But before the week is out we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to surprise a few people, I think.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve got a free ride to the playoffs, so we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll take that game Saturday and see what we can do with it.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Lannon is one of nine players in the Stony Plain lineup who originally hail from Newfoundland \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the host province of the 2007 senior A nationals \u00e2\u20ac\u201d as does outfielder Ron Joy, whose nephew Darrell Joy plays third base for the Saskatoon Aspen Interior Black Sox.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This is Ronny\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first time at the nationals and he put one off the scoreboard today to get a home run, so I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m very happy for him,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Lannon said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Yes, very happy.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The other Newfies donning Stony Plain jerseys are brothers Daryl and Mike Tilley (pitcher and utility player respectively), catcher Cyril Walsh, second baseman Dan Corbett, third baseman James Dunphy, centre fielder Barry Sullivan and manager Mike Hynes.<\/p>\n<p>The Tilleys, Corbett and utility man Scott Smith have competed at previous national fastpitch tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re working towards St. John\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, Newfoundland for the nationals next year,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Lannon said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153And we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re here to see what we need to do to get competitive, so these losses to us are not devastating to us. We know that we have to do a few things for next year, but we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re here having fun.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Stony Plain was shut out Sunday on opening day by both the defending champion St. Thomas (Ont.) Evergreen Centennials and the Jarvis Merchants from Ontario.
