Cal Cup III \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Update \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Saturday, October 28th, 2006<\/p>\n
WOW! HAPPY HALLOWEEN that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the best way to describe the opening day of Saturday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Cal Cup III tournament in Hayward. The weather in beautiful Hayward, California was absolutely perfect and the ball fields were primped to perfection. <\/p>\n
Dave Jordan and the Cardinals rolled in to Larry Standley Field to start the tournament off with a 9:00 game against Romie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Angels of Hayward. After all pleasantries were exchanged Dave handed the beautiful CAL CUP Trophy to me for safekeeping. He stated that he would be back to claim it on Sunday. Rick Appiano manager of Romie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Angels stated that he had 1 pitcher for the day and that they will see what happens he also wished me good luck in figuring out all of the tiebreakers for the first round of play. Of course I responded with the usual \u00e2\u20ac\u0153hopefully that would be the least of my worries.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d At the Hayward Sports Complex 3 fields were being used by the NSA girl\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fastpitch program and they were already well into their first games of the day (they start at 8 a.m.), what a great way to recruit x-fastpitch dads back into the game\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.more on that later! The Bay Area Merchants and Fat City teams were gearing up for the start of a long day!<\/p>\n

Okay we are ready to go, oh wait a minute UMPIRES, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153who do we have today?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I said to myself. Yes Vanessa \u00e2\u20ac\u0153theeeyyyy’rrree here\u00e2\u20ac\u009d HAVE YOU EVER SEEN POLTERGEIST? I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll let Dave Jordan (Cardinals); Bob Piddock (A-1 Tank); Shawn Ching (Da Bruddah\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s) and whoever wants to chime in on this subject hash this one out on the forum later!
\nPull out the rule books folks we will be having a discussion on this one for a while.<\/p>\n
I could go on and on about the ghostly events of the day from a Tourney Directors point of view but all in all the day ended with everyone having a few beers and most of the younger guys and some of the perky seniors making it to their Halloween parties on time, and, lucky for me I only had to do one coin flip to break a tie for the seeding bracket. As far as POLTERGEIST gang, as I said before I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure the discussion will happen.<\/p>\n

As the games got underway at the Sports complex, the dads watching their daughters games started inching their way to the men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s game, I had 1 dad approach me, handed me his card and expressed interest in playing. He stated that he was a pitcher, pitched in So Cal and now lived in Dublin CA, his name is Phil Tucker, he told me who he had pitched for in So Cal, but sorry it slipped my mind.
