{"id":1916,"date":"2007-07-26T16:57:12","date_gmt":"2007-07-27T00:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fastpitchwest.com\/morningbrief\/?p=1916"},"modified":"2007-07-26T16:57:12","modified_gmt":"2007-07-27T00:57:12","slug":"elkville-wins-sifl-tournament-illinois","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/morningbrief\/?p=1916","title":{"rendered":"Elkville Wins SIFL Tournament &#8211; Illinois"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.duquoin.com\/articles\/2007\/07\/26\/sports\/sports2.txt\"><strong>From the DuQuoin Evening Call:<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<strong>Elkville Wins SIFL Tournament<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>By Jeff Profitt\/GateHouse News Service<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Elkville Fastpitch claimed a pair of victories Wednesday, winning the Southern Illinois Fastpitch League (SIFL) End-of-season Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Now 31-10, Elkville defeated Kuhnert Builders of Elkville 13-5 in the semifinal game and then bested Scheller (Bauza Landscaping Dirt Bags) 5-1 to claim the championship.<\/p>\n<p>Troy Downen was the winning pitcher in both contests, entering in relief of Don Malawy during the second inning of game one.<\/p>\n<p>In that win over Kuhnert&#8217;s, Elkville scored five times in the third inning and sealed the victory by taking on seven more tallies in the fourth and fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Hunter went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI for Elkville.<\/p>\n<p>Drew Porter and Barry Maynor were each 2-for-3 with back-to-back solo home runs.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Herring and Bryar Funk added RBI hits.<\/p>\n<p>Downen allowed four hits in the final four innings.<\/p>\n<p>Kuhnert&#8217;s had solo homers from Dax Piper and Jeremy Keith. Daniel Eisenhauer added a two-run shot.<\/p>\n<p>Piper finished with two hits.<\/p>\n<p>Keith was the losing hurler.<\/p>\n<p>Against Scheller, Aaron Hunter&#8217;s third inning solo home run turned out to be the difference.<\/p>\n<p>Only two of Elkville&#8217;s runs against Scheller hurler Bryant Hale were earned.<\/p>\n<p>Hale and Downen both tossed six-hitters.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Niedbalski&#8217;s solo blast accounted for the Scheller scoring.
