The Grey Sox went undefeated in the 8 team event – defeating the hometown Pueblo Bandits 8 – 4 in the final game. The tournament was played under sunny skies and hot weather, and was attended by good sized and knowledgeable crowds. Thanks to our host the Pubelo Bandits and in particular Chris Santos for all his assistance. We look forward to seeing the Bandits again when they return to Vancouver in late July for the 7th Annual Vancouver Challenge scheduled for July 25 – 27 at South Memorial Park in Vancouver. The results of our 5 Grey Sox games played on the weekend are enclosed. Next action for the team is May 31 / June 1 when we travel to Grande Prairie, Alberta for the Horse Lake Thunder tournament, which is providing a $10,000 prize for the event champions.

Larry Kancs
President
Vancouver Grey Sox
www.vancouvergreysox.com

Saturday May 24 – round robin game 1
Vancouver Grey Sox 10 – Boulder, Colorado Rebels 0
5 inning mercy rule
WP – Jeff Wilson – 4 Innings 3 hits 7 Ks – relief from Mike Piechnik (5) – 3 Ks
LP – Edward Walker
Blake Hunter was 2-2 with 2 HRs to lead the Grey Sox offense

Saturday May 24 – round robin game 2
5 inning mercy rule
Vancouver Grey Sox 9 – Anadarko, Oklahoma Superchief 1
WP – Brian Mayson – 4 innings, 1 Hit, 4K, 0 Runs – relief from Mike Piechnik (5) – 1 hit, 1 run, 2 ks
LP – David Beets
Doug Cain was 2 for 3 with a homerun to pace the Grey Sox attack, Calem Gardner was 3 for 3.

Saturday May 24 – round robin game 3
Vancouver Grey Sox 5 – Pueblo, Colorado Bandits 3
WP – Mike Piechnik – 7 innings complete game 4 Hits, 11Ks, 1 earned run
LP – Sisko Sabate
Rob Giesbrecht was 3-3 at the plate for the Grey Sox, and Bryan Abrey was 2 for 3 with 2 homeruns.

Sunday May 25 – Semi Final
Vancouver Grey Sox 10 – Pueblo, Colorado DILLIGAF Fastpitch 2
5 inning mercy rule
WP – Jeff Wilson, 7 Ks, 2 runs, 3 hits, 4 innings with relief from Mike Piechnik (5), 1 hit 3 Ks.
Nick Medwedrich was 3 for 3 with a home run for the Grey Sox, and Bryan Abrey was 2 for 3 with a homerun.

Sunday May 25 – Championship Game
Vancouver Grey Sox 8 – Pueblo, Colorado Bandits 4
WP – Mike Piechnik, 5 innings 8ks, 6 hits 1 run – relief from Jeff Wilson (6) 2ks, 5 hits 3 runs
LP – Max Monteco, 4 innings 3 ks, 5 hits, 3 runs – relief from Sisko Sabate (5) 0ks, 6 hits 5 runs.
Bryan Abrey was 3 for 4 with 4 rbis to lead the Grey Sox offense, Calem Gardner was 2 for 3 with 2 rbis.

Vancouver’s Mike Piechnik Notches Two Wins Over Pueblo [Pueblo, CO] – The Vancouver Grey Sox made their first trip into the state of Colorado a successful one, capturing the Joe Santos Memorial Tournament.
