For those who might have missed the weekend news, California Lumberkings second baseman Kevin Castillo was injured by a sliding baserunner at the Snapper Shootout in Niagara, Ontario<\/a> and appears to be out for the season, with a broken fibula and torn ligaments.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

(Tuesday, 8am PDT) – Just got off the phone with Kevin’s dad, Paul. Kevin and his folks just arrived home to Southern California at 7am this morning, after driving — yes, driving — all the way from Buffalo, leaving there at 7pm Sunday night. (7pm Sunday night to 7am Tuesday morning).<\/p>\n

The doctors told Kevin that the cabin pressure in an airplane could cause further swelling, and cautioned against flying for a few weeks. So Kevin’s parents, who flew the red-eye to Buffalo on Friday when they heard the news of his injury, rented a Chevy van, and drove cross-country to get him home. (The van permitted Kevin some measure of comfort, and room to put his leg up)<\/p>\n
