Photo by KARLEILA THOMSEN<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[Fraser Coast\/Hervey Bay Australia] &#8211; PLENTY of men came out swinging in Maryborough on Sunday and a few of them proved to be a big hit &#8230; playing softball.<\/p>\n<p>Hervey Bay\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Jono Thomas was certainly one of them.<\/p>\n<p>The Queensland under 19 representative starred with his bat during the second Maryborough Softball Association men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gala Day for the season at Fairfield Park.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas smashed two home runs out of the ball park on the way to helping his Hervey Bay line-up beat Maryborough\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Sparx 18-8 in the final.<\/p>\n<p>While Thomas shone with the bat, his team-mates, Lyam McKay (two) Shaun Mitchell and Brad Mitchell, did likewise in the outfield taking catches.<\/p>\n<p>Billy Connel (two), Alister Brooks and Wal Harvey gloved catches for Sparx.<\/p>\n<p>Seven teams contested the day and Maryborough Softball Association official Wendy Mathiesen said all the players had a ball.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Not even the rain put a dampener on the day,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It was a huge success and we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve certainly generated a lot of interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll do our best to hold another one in the near future.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(click logo for original news story) Robert Green from Incas I team hits out while playing in the Maryborough Softball Association men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gala Day at Fairfield Park.
