A local Corona athlete, Destinee Martinez will be among those attending.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nMartinez Selected for USA Softball Junior National Team Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NORMAN, Okla. \u00e2\u20ac\u201c University of Oklahoma incoming softball freshman Destinee Martinez (Corona, Calif.) was one of 42 student-athletes invited to attend the 2010 USA Softball Junior Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Team selection, June 10-13, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.<\/p>\n<p>The 17 athletes selected for the 2010 USA Softball Junior Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Team will be announced on June 15. The team will compete later this year at the III Pan American Softball Championship (18-and-under), August 6-15, in Bogota, Colombia. The event serves as a qualifier for the International Softball Federation (ISF) IX Jr. Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s World Championship (19-and-under), December 6-17, 2011, in Cape Town, South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez, a 5-4 outfielder, prepped at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Corona, Calif. She earned second team all-state honors from Cal Hi Sports in 2009 and was a first team all-area selection by The (Riverside, Calif.) Press Enterprise. Martinez also earned first team all-league honors and was named to the all-tournament team at the Corona Tournament. She hit .516 overall as a junior with 48 hits and a .622 on-base percentage. Martinez also stole 12 bases. Outside of softball, Martinez has served as her class\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 vice-president since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Martinez has spent the past five summers with the Corona Angels. The team finished in the top 25 at the 2009 Amateur Softball Association GOLD Nationals in Oklahoma City, a season where she hit .480 for the team. The squad finished second at that same event in 2008.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.usasoftball.com\/uploads\/logos\/usasoftball-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>OKLAHOMA CITY \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today the 42 athletes who have accepted an invitation to attend the 2010 USA Softball Junior Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Team selection camp, June 10-13, at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The athletes, who are age 18 and under, represent 13 states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah.<\/p>\n<p>The 17 athletes selected for the 2010 USA Softball Junior Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Team will be announced on June 15.
