The father of two fastpitch-playing sons is determined to keep the boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fastpitch game alive \u00e2\u20ac\u201c at least in his part of the country \u00e2\u20ac\u201c northwest Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Though denied participation in the 2010 ASA Boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Tournament in the 10-under and 12-under age divisions because of a lack of teams to offer competition in the two brackets, Lewis is undeterred for the 2011 tournaments to be held in Mankato, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>And even though his teams couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t play at Rolla in the 2010 event, his boys played non-the-less.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I stayed home and played a fantastic game between my two boys teams,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Lewis, who is the principal, athletic director, and boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s softball coach at Winston High School. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I had nineteen little boys age 12 and under play a scrimmage game\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6.we had uniforms, umpires, PA announcing, etc. Great time was had by all.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>And as for the ASA national in Mankato next year?<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I am planning on going to Mankato and taking a 10-Under and a 12-Under team. I am also talking to a couple dads about putting a 14-Under team together. And I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure my brother-in-law, Greg \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Skipper\u00e2\u20ac\u009d McQuinn will have at least an 18-Under<br \/>\nand 23-Under (this year he had those two and a 16-Under).\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Lewis added that it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s possible that northwest Missouri will have a team in every division of the ASA boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and young men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s tournament.<\/p>\n<p>And he sees a glimmer of hope that he and McQuinn aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t alone in the push to revive the boy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and young men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sides of the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I saw some of the younger boys division dads and coaches playing fastpitch in Des Moines in the NAFA World Series tournaments,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They spoke very confidently of taking teams to Mankato (and) some spoke of taking multiple teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s try and reverse the tide and have a tournament with more teams in every age division.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From OttoInFocus: (click banner for original news story at OttoinFocus) WINSTON, MO \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Some men would just throw up there hands and say, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153enough&#8217;s, enough, it just isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t meant to be.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d But you won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hear that from Eric Lewis of Winston, Missouri.
