Tucson, AZ—Cities from almost every state in the country converged on the JW Marriott in Tucson, Ariz., this week to make their pitch to the ASA National Council in order to secure one of the many ASA National Championship Finals in 2007. ASA National Championship Finals are the most coveted<\/strong> softball championships in the country and are awarded each year during the ASA Annual National Council Meeting. Over 100 ASA Nationals Championships were awarded this year to over 50 different cities for the 2007 season.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t know about “coveted”. The town of TBD (“to be determined”) seemed to garner the most national tournaments. Guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the cities aren’t exactly lining up to host some of the ASA men’s events, such as the “Major” which drew six (6) teams last year, or the “A”, which drew five (5) teams. How long will it be before they don’t even bother?<\/p>\n

ASA Men’s Class A – Decatur, Illinois
\nASA Men’s Class B – Killeen, Texas
\nASA Men’s Class C – Marietta\/Cobb County, Georgia
\nA Men’s Major – South Bend, Indiana
\nASA Men’s Masters 40-Over – Portland, Oregon*
\nASA Men’s Masters 45-Over – Rockford, Illinois
\nASA Men’s Seniors** 50-Over Prescott, Arizona \t<\/p>\n

* Yes, in case you were wondering, it will be held at Delta Park, the home of the Rose Cup tournament.
\n** Hey, when did 50+ Masters become “Seniors”? I resent that !
\nWebster’s Dictionary defines a senior citizen as: “an elderly person; especially : one who has retired”. Someone tell the ASA that there are a lot of 50+ players who are neither elderly nor retired.
