SFS II - Game Recaps
Editor's note: Game
recaps are provided for miscellaneous games where information is available.
We'd love to include all of the games, but need your help. If you
have info, email us:
info@fastpitchwest.com,
including anything showing as "n/a" (not
available) below.
If it seems that there is more
information for the Black Sox and Rounders, you're right, as I'm around to do the
Rounder recaps and Fred Hanker's Black Sox website provides theirs.
(Thanks, Fred) Because I am playing, I can't get to all of the games.
(And they take my PDA away in the bullpen)
Join in? (I have the
scores, just need WP and LP and the Recap). I expect that this page
will grow in the weeks following the tournament, so check back often.
Too much to do at one sitting, so I will chip away. Game numbers
correspond to the game numbers shown on the "Scoreboard" page (click
"up" menu button at left, then "Scoreboard". )
| Please note that we have also
added play-by-play game logs for selected games. (Click menu
buttons at left) We're at the "beta testing" stage, so let us know
what you think of them, if the pages display properly on your screen,
if you find errors, etc.

Recap |
The Amigos took the win
in the lowest scoring game of the tournament, 1-0 with the help of a 2
hit shutout thrown by 21 year old Anthony Martinez. The lone run of
the game came on an RBI single by Johnny Rodriguez to give him his
second game winning hit of the weekend. (He homered to break a 3-3 tie
with Raymar on Saturday) Anthony overcame early control
struggles caused by the extra mound on diamond 3. Ray Smith
surrendered only one run, but it was enough for the Amigos. |

Recap |
San Diego led 7-2
after 5 innings, but the Fear climbed back in with 2 runs in the top
of the 6th to bring the score to 7-4. In the top of the 7th inning,
San Diego proceeded to give up 4 runs, and trailed the Fear 8-7.
Dan Zupp came on in relief with 1 out and a runner at 3rd base and
promptly struck out the next two batters. In the bottom of the 7th
inning San Diego scored 1 run to tie the game at 8-8 and left runners
on at 2nd and 3rd base. Zupp retired the side in the tie-breaker
inning, leaving the runner at 3rd base after he was sacrificed over.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, San Diego sacrificed the runner over
to 3rd, then Terry Brightwell was hit by the pitch. The Fear
intentionally walked Joe Fernandez to load the bases for Dan Zupp, who
was making his first plate appearance of the game. Dan responded by
ripping the ball through the middle of the field to win the game.
(Editor's note: Joe Fernandez and Dan Zupp were San Diego's All
Tournament selections on the weekend. Joe Fernandez was 8-18 with 6
RBI's; Dan Zupp was 5-0 on the weekend, and 4/9 with 2 RBI's at
the plate, including a circus catch in right field.) |

Recap |
The Palm Springs
Express broke into the "Final Four" for the first time, with a 3-1 win
over the El Segundo Rounders. In this well pitched game, a 2 run
homer to left-center in the second inning by Darryl Goree proved to be
the difference, on a pitch up around the eyes. The Rounders
lived by the home run ball with 8 on Saturday, by died by it Sunday.
The Rounders had the bases loaded in the 5th, two on in the 6th and
two more in the 7th, but could only scratch for one run. Palm
Springs pitcher Mark Manuelito pitched very well, changing speeds and
keeping the Rounders off balance. It was the Rounder's second "one and
out" Sunday, on identical 3-1 scores (last time at the hands of San
Diego Fastpitch) |
