Santana Concrete has a
long history in Southern California fastpitch. Known as the
Riverside Merchants until 1999, the team is headed up by patriarch
Manny Echeveste, who can hit with the best of them. Manny's
son's make the team a family affair, with David Echeveste and the
younger
Eddie Echeveste. Echeveste
cousin Bryan Villareal, one of the Alliance's top outfielders will be
back in centerfield and will provide the spark at the top of the
lineup, as will veteran Frank "Paco" Valverde who plays like Both have
national tournament experience, as do a number of the players on the
squad. Long-time Santana outfielder Scott Colyer will be back, as will
the always talkative
Robbie Staples
and versatile Scott Stone. Dave Meltz is a long time
member of the team and always among the leaders in wins and innings
pitched. Dave is called by some the "craftiest lefty" in the
game. This year, Dominick Tobin joins Meltz and Alex Bazurto to
round out the pitching staff. Santana Concrete's high
point last season was winning the So Cal ASA qualifying tournament
over the memorial day weekend, and with it, a berth to the National
tournament in College Station Texas. |
