Rainey’s Roy Guinaldo singled home a run in the bottom of the 5th to give Team Rainey a 2-0 lead. But the Bombers rallied back for 4 runs, including a home run by Jason Porto, and pitcher Tony Peeples came on in relief of Ryan Brand to pick up the semi-final win and advance to the championship game against host CR/Portland. Portland has now been in the finals two years in a row, falling to Vancouver in last year’s championship game.

Fourth Round - Championship Game - CR Portland 6, So Cal Bombers 1

Game 16

Host CR/Portland won their own tournament, the well-established Rose Cup tournament for the first time Sunday, with a 6-1 win over the So Cal Bombers. Portland made it to the championship game last year, but finished second to the Vancouver Grey Sox. In 2006, however, it was a perfect 7-0 weekend. Brian Ree homered in the championship game, while pitcher Terry Luster picked up the win, over the Bombers’ Travis Price.  The So Cal Bombers finished with a 6-1 record for second place, while Team Rainey was 5-1 for third place.

Tournament MVPs and  All Star Selections:

Portland’s Kevin Rasmussen was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while teammate Mike Piechnik was tabbed as the Most Valuable Pitcher.
