ISC Game 1 - Friday, 4pm - El Toro over SoCal Bucks in 10 innings

The So Cal Bucks had the honor of playing in the first game of the 2003 ISC World Tournament.   The "tough luck" Bucks dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0 to El Toro/Depere, Wisconsin, in 10 innings. Mark Bennett of the Bucks struck out nineteen (19) batters in the losing effort.   The Bucks came close to winning the game in regulation, when leadoff hitter Dan Winnick led off the sixth inning with a triple, but was stranded at third. In the top of the
10th, Mark Bennett struck out the "2" and "3" hitters in the order, before El Toro scored the game's lone run. The Bucks were retired in order in the bottom of the 10th.

Tane Richardson singled in the 10th inning, went to 2b on an error. Rick Ferry pinch hit single to score Richardson, winning his own game. For the Bucks, centerfielder Dan Winnick had 2 hits, while Dwayne Fowler, Aaron Owens and Ron Mizner had the others.

The So Cal Bucks' second game of the tournament against a very strong Fedlock Falcon team from Washington, D.C. has just gotten underway this morning (noon Wisconsin time, Saturday).   Two other west coast teams will play their first game tonight, with Team Rainey opening against the ISC's #10 ranked team, H.I.S. Construction of Houston, Texas, at 8pm (5pm PST), immediately following Opening Ceremonies. (Team Rainey is ranked #23).
Tom Ree's Portland DeMarini Merchants of Portland, Oregon will take on the #2 ranked team in the World, The Farm, of Madison Wisconsin at 10pm (7pm PST) (Portland is ranked #18)

The ISC World Tournament format is round robin for four games, followed by a single elimination bracket for the top 16 teams, seeded by pool play results. Pool Play continues through Wednesday night, August 13, 2003, followed by the single elimination bracket tournament which concludes on Saturday, August 16, 2003.
