\nKurt Schieman hopes for a better showing the second time around in the Shaw Chiropractic Fastpitch Softball Tournament.<\/p>\n

A year ago, the host team — Shaw — went 1-2 in pool play and failed to qualify for the single-elimination tournament.<\/p>\n

“If we played six weekends, we might have six different winners,” said Schieman, whose squad opens the 10-man tournament 7 p.m. Friday against Sweaburg (Ont.) Crush at Pine Grove Park.<\/p>\n

“It should be tough competition. You’re looking at a lot of 3-2 and 4-2 games.”<\/p>\n

Shaw is the lone area team in the event, which will be played at Pine Grove Park and 16th Street Fields.<\/p>\n

Ashland (Ohio) Stock Pack, Alvinston (Ont.) Indians and Waterdown (Ont.) Hammer shared the title a year ago when a storm wiped out the final semifinal game and finals.<\/p>\n

The tournament is an International Softball Congress national qualifier.<\/p>\n
