The Jarvis Travellers won three in pool play, outscoring Elmira, Sweaburg and Argentina 21 -0.   But the Cubs almost knocked the Jarvis  Travelers out of the championship round in a great 1 vs 4 Quarter-final game on Saturday night<\/p>\n<p>The Cubs opened the Quarter Final  scoring in the 2nd  on a Scott Wagar solo shot home run.  Wagar, the starter for the Cubs, allowed  a hit in the first, another in the 3rd and 2 in the sixth and held the ISC world  champs off the scoresheet til  the bottom of the 7th.<\/p>\n<p>In the 7th Wagar struck out first baseman  Pat Graham to open the inning, walked Greg Courneyea, Jarvis 3rd baseman, to bring DP Nick Shailes to the plate.  Shailes homered for the 2 RBI walk off and on to the semi final against Midland Mich Explorers on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Cubs showed they have the horses for any race, but could not find a win all  weekend.<\/p>\n<p>They opened the tournament with a 1 &#8211; 0 loss  to the Shakespeare Falcons, Jamie Boyd tripled (he does a lot of that) and scored on a Rob Faulhaufer hit to short in the 2nd inning.<\/p>\n<p>Friday night the Cubs met and lost to the Owen Sound Selects. Owen Sound got  3 runs in the 3rd inning, Brandon Parks scored on Ryan Thompson&#8217;s RBI single, and Thompson on Andy Skeltons 2 RBI homer.  In the 6th Andrew Scott  scored on a Aaron Fraser  hit.<\/p>\n<p>The Selects left 5 on base, the Cubs 4&#8230;including 3 left on base with one out&#8230;Ryan French took  the loss, Andy Skelton won, with Luke Leahy in releif<\/p>\n<p>Saturday and the Cubs met the Midland Explorers. This time the Cubs faced Grant Patterson and got 6  hits off the Midland starter; one in each inning except the 6th.  Travis Hoffstetter&#8217;s triple in the 4th scored Allan Phibbs who walked earlier in the inning.<\/p>\n<p>The Explorers managed their 9 hits a bit better.  In the 3rd with 2 out, Steve Horning single, Todd Moore tripled, and Shea Bryant singled for 2 runs.  In the 5th Dan Loney doubled and Rowan Lamb homered to give starter Grant Patterson the win.<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis got their 3  &#8220;Green&#8221; pool play wins and 21 runs with scores  of 3 &#8211; 0 over Elmira Expos, 5 &#8211; 0 over  Sweaburg and 13 &#8211; 0 over  Argentina Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n<p> Adam Folkard  threw a one hitter, facing 22 batters, recorded 13 strike outs, one walk and the only hit to Elmira catcher  Travis Martin. Will  Fehrman was on  base with a fielder&#8217;s choice in the 3rd,  Ben Enoka singled and Fred Terkelson scored Fehrman with  a sacrifice   RBI to  centre field.  In the 6th Pat Graham walked and was batted in on a Greg Courneyear triple.  Jason Sandford scored Courneyear.   Adam Folkard got the win for Jarvis.<\/p>\n<p>In game 10  Sweaburg Crush went down on another one hitter, this time shared between Andrew Phibbs who went 4 innings and Adam Folkard who allowed the one hit in the 7th to Sweaburg&#8217;s Eric Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Brandon Horn scored in  the 4th on Rob O&#8217;Brien&#8217;s RBI.  The Travellers went thru the order in the 5th scoring 4 runs.  Greg Courneyer walked, Jason Sandford singled, Will Ferman out short to first  and lead off hitter Ben Enoka watched a 3rd strike for two away.. Fred Terkelson<br \/>\nsingle brought in 2, Brandon Horn walked, Nick Shailes singled in Terkelson and Rob O&#8217;Brien RBId Horn for the 5th run&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Game 12 and Don Scott  has the ball and throws a no hitter, a 13 &#8211; 0 win over  the Argentina Juniors..Scott faced the absolute minimum, 15 hitters in the 5 run game&#8230;Ben Enoka had 4  RBIs, and a Home run, Rob OBrien 3 RBI Home run in the 3rd, ,  Brandon Horn 2 RBIs, on a 2B, Pat Graham a single scoring an  RBI, Joram Graham 2 RBIs, a 3B and a single, and Will Ferhman a 2B RBI..<\/p>\n<p>Midland (Mich) Explorers opened the tournament with a 10 &#8211; 4 win over the Shakespeare Falcons.  Mike Joseph went 4 2\/3 for the Explorers, allowing 6 hits, getting 7 K&#8217;s and walking 1.  Grant Patterson picked up the win going 2 1\/3, allowed no hits, got 4Ks.<\/p>\n<p>Offensively Shakespeare opened the  scoring with a Jamie Boyd triple&#8230;followed by a Rob Falhaufer triple.  In the home half  of the 5th, the Falcons Trevor Glaab reached on a Fielder&#8217;s Choice, Andrew Medhurst moved him along and short stop Jamie Wicke tripled  (another 3B for Shakespeare)  to score two more&#8230;Kevin Newhouse singled to  score Wicke&#8230;Midland was held off the scorebook til  the 5th&#8230;and then filled the chart  with a bat around inning.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Horning in the 7 spot,  with one out, singled and was scored by Shea Bryant batting 9th. Top  of the  order, and Dan Loney safe at first, Eddie Kettlehut, outfield error, scoring Loney and Bryant, and finally Rowan Lamb another homer to  score two more&#8230;5 run inning.  Kyle Beane opened the 6th with  a walk, scored on Todd  Moore&#8217;s triple, and Moore then scored on Loney&#8217;s RBI single..The  7th Red Levy drove in Kettlehut, Steve Roberts drove in Lam, and Kyle  Beane drove in Red&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Twenty hits in  that game&#8230;14 for the Explorers, 6 for Shakespeare; both left 4 on base&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In game 11 Midland met and lost to the Owen Sound Selects&#8230;.this time scoring 3 runs on 6 hits&#8230;The Selects got their 4 runs off 11 hits.  Jamie Simpson picked up the win  and Mike Joseph the loss.  Midland opened the scoring in the 2nd&#8230;.Kyle Beane a double off  Simpson, moved to 3rd as Steve Horning  reached  on an error and stole 2nd a pitch or two later.  Shea Bryant sacrifice fly to score Beane, and and Eddie  Kettlehut an RBI single  to score Horning.<br \/>\nDan Loney scored  in  the 5th on a single and Dale Levy&#8217;s RBI single.<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sound  picked up  2 in the 3rd. Nick Dambrosio singled and was hit in  by  Ben Wideman&#8217;s triple, who was then scored by Ryan Thompson.<br \/>\nIn the 5th Andy Skelton reached first on a walk, and was scored by Aaron Fraser&#8217;s double.   Score tied at 3 and going to  the top half of the 7th inning<\/p>\n<p>Andy Skelton walks, Matt Lyon reaches first on  a single.  Skelton is out at 3rd.  Adam Dearborn scores Lyon and Owen Sound has a one run lead.<\/p>\n<p>Midland,  top of the order;  Loney, Kettlehut and Lam to the plate&#8230;3 up, 3  down&#8230;Owen Sound wins<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sound two wins&#8230;and another against Shakespeare 8 &#8211; 2 gives  them a 3 &#8211; 0 record and top  of the board status for the playoff round in the &#8220;Grey&#8221; pool.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare did all  thier offensive damage in the first inning against Luke Leahy.  Jamie Wicke walked, advanced to 2nd on Kevin Newhouse&#8217;s bunt.<br \/>\nAndrew Medhurst walked, stole  2nd.  Jamie Boyd walked.  Wicke and Medhurst scored on wild pitches.<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sound answered in the first with Andy Skelton and Ryan Thompson scoring on a Aaron Fraser single.  The 2nd inning 3 runs, Nick Dambrosio, Ben Wideman, and Skelton again, this time on a 3RBI double from Matt Lyon.  Two more in the 5th, Ryan Thompson a single and this time Andy Skelton homered.  3 at bats for Skelton and 3 runs scored, 2 RBIs.  In the 7th.. LT Jaques in for Dambrosio, scored Brandon Parks.<\/p>\n<p>After pool play, the Quarter  Final  match ups  were  ( 1 vs 4)  Owen Sound vs Elmira, and Jarvis vs KW Cubs,<br \/>\nand in 2 vs 3  and Midland vs Argentina and Shakespeare vs Sweaburg,<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sound and Elmira was a 1 &#8211; 0 scrapper over 6 1\/2 scoreless innings&#8230;.For both clubs,&#8230;.3 to the plate, 4 to the plate, 3 to the plate.<br \/>\nBrandon Parks got to 3rd for Owen Sound in the 3rd on  a single and a wild pitch, and a fielders choice to Nick Dambrosio, but no further.<br \/>\nfor the Expo&#8217;s three hits,   Tim Freeman  a lone  single in the 4th, stranded at first, and another in the 6th this time  stranded at 2nd.  For Owen Sound, bottom of the 6th&#8230;.Ben Wideman, two out&#8230;home run&#8230;.For  Elmira bottom of the  7th&#8230;Trevor Beatson, the 3rd Elmira hit, but the 3rd out at second base  on a  short to second infield hit  by Brian  Eidt.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina and Midland next in the Quarter finals and Midland had  to go the distance to beat the Argentina team.  Dale Levy scored twice for Midland, a long &#8220;Big Red&#8221; homer  in the second was all  the Explorers needed.  Dale walked  in the 4th and Steve Roberts brought in Dale two batters later.  Grant  Patterson  had a no  hitter going until one out in the 7th.  Midland 2, Argentina 0.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare could only come up  with one run against Sweaburg.  Jamie Boyd knocked in Jamie  Wicke in the top of the first on a single.  Matt McLaren was  the only other Falcon batter to get a hit off Sweaburg starter Rob Schweyer.    Rob had 11 Ks to go with that  2 hittter<\/p>\n<p>Sweaburg got all they needed in the 5th inning Eric Scott scored on Rob  Bomberry RBI, Rob Schweyer and Bomberry were scored by Daryl Warram<br \/>\nIn the 4th Schweyer brought in two more runs  on a double, scoring Josh Leuszler and Eric Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Owen Sound was next up for Sweaburg.  It was over in the 2nd&#8230;.7 runs &#8230;Ryan Thompson, Andy Skelton, Matt Lyon, Andrew Scott,  Aaron Fraser. Adam Dearborn, and Luke Leahy&#8230;.Matt  Leahy went the distance&#8230;2 hits and 8  Ks over 5 innings&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis had beaten the Cubs as mentioned earlier, and now were up against Midland.  The winner  to meet Owen Sound in the championship game<\/p>\n<p>Dan Loney opended the scoring, a single, followed by a single by Ed Kettlehut, and a Dale Levy RBI single.<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis answered with a run by their lead  off  hitter,  Ben Enoka, a  3B, and Pat Graham the RBI Sac to left field.<\/p>\n<p>Midland in  the 2nd&#8230;Steve Roberts,  Steve Horning singles and doubles, 1 RBI forHorning, and Dan Loney out at 1st but scoring Horning,  3 &#8211; 1 Midland<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis 3rd inning&#8230;Will  Ferhman a single&#8230;and Pat Graham another RBI&#8230;Midland 3- Jarvis 2<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis 4th&#8230;Joram Graham, on an error, at 1st base. Jason Sandford a double, Nick Shailes a walk,  Will Freeman a RBI out to left field, Ben Enoka a walk, and Pat Graham up to bat again and this time 2 RBIs scoring Sandford and Shailes. Enoka scores on  a wild pitch..  Jarvis 6 &#8211; Midland 3<\/p>\n<p>Jarvis 5th..Fred Terkelson a double, and a Greg Courneyea  a single with the RBI..Jarvis  7 &#8211; Midland 3<\/p>\n<p>Don Scott went 2, allowed the 3 Midland runs, Adam Folkard got the win&#8230;Greg Garrity took the loss, going  3 2\/3, Mike Joseph went 2 1\/3<\/p>\n<p>CAMPIONSHIP GAME<\/p>\n<p>Hot, hot and hotter, every shade tree was standing room only, golf umbrellas beyond the  outfield fence, the only respite was the Tavistock Grounds Crew watering the infield, and sending a  bit of spray beyond the stone dust.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Folkard  for Jarvis,  Matt Leahy for Owen Sound.  Both went 7 innings, Folkard allowed 3 hits, and stuck out 13  Leahy allowed 4 hits and had 7 k&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>Fred Terkelson scored twice for Jarvis.  in the 4th he was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd, was moved to 3rd by Joram Graham and an RBI by Greg  Corneyea.<br \/>\nTired of all that base to base running in the  4th&#8230;Terkelson homered in the 6th inning&#8230;.Jarvis  2 &#8211; Owen Sound  0<\/p>\n<p>In the 5th Adam Dearborn got Owen Sounds first hit. In the 6th Ryan Thompson got a hit, both were left at first<\/p>\n<p>In the home half of the 7th..Matt Lyon reached first on a hit.  With one away, Aaron Fraser got one right on the screws but it failed to make the fence, 2 out and a strike  out later, Jarvis had the championship a 2 &#8211; 0 win over Owen Sound<\/p>\n<p>Great weekend, hot, but lots  of fun at the park, and lots of ball fans happy with the play of the teams,  the welcome they received from the Tavistock crew, at the gate,  the food booth, the beer tent, all weekend long.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Bailey thanked everyone involved, the volunteers, the umps, the teams and especially the great ball fans who attended.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>One more Game to report<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nAt 5pm Saturday the North Waterloo  Bantam Boys team played an all star  game.  They got in 5 innings, The South beat the North 2 &#8211; 1<\/p>\n<p>Brent Eby and Travis Ranseyer  scored for the South.  Ranseyer and Trevor Skinner got the 2 RBIs.<\/p>\n<p>Tyson Zehr scored for the North on  a Tyler  Parker  RBI  single.<\/p>\n<p>Pitching for the South, Dylan Taylor, the catcher was Devon Kropf<\/p>\n<p>John Baker, Braedon  Bartens  and Tyler Pauli pitched for the North with Garrett Lett behind the plate.<\/p>\n<p>Austin Davies was  at short for the South, Codey Brown at  3rd, Carson Lamond in left.  Brodie Stevenson, and Dakota Pletsch rounded out the roster<\/p>\n<p>Alex Roth played centre for  the North, Jesse Dewced at 1st, Alex Dumas right, Addie Cober, Zack Boschardt and Ethan Hinz completed the roster.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce Young pointed out that 6 teams from the North Waterloo Minor Softball League are sending teams to the Eastern Canadians this August.<br \/>\nQuite an accomplishment and good news for fastball fans&#8230;.more  ball  players on the way in the not too distant future.  Keep up the great work at the minor level coaches&#8230;you may not get enough thank yous  or  many tips of the old ball cap,  but a lot of fans at Tavistock were sure impressed by those young players.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Results from Masters in Bracebridge<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nWaterloo lost to Aurora 14 &#8211; 11 and Aurora then lost 5 &#8211; 3 to Bracebridge in the championship game&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>I  have some information about a great tournament being hosted by Bracebridge August 26 &#8211; 28.  $2,000 in prize money to the top  team in the open division&#8230;TedConway (at) muskoka.com<\/p>\n<p>Southern Ontario Jays went undefeated in OASA Junior  B finals in New Dundee&#8230;Teams at New Dundee included Freelton, Jarvis, Newmarket, Sydneham, and the host club New Dundee.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Owen Sound VWs took two from the Mildmay Mets, 5 &#8211; 4 in the opener of a DH and a  by a bunch in the second game.<\/p>\n<p>Mildmay  also lost one to Port Elgin as well this week&#8230;6 &#8211; 3&#8230;Chepstow fell  to Wiarton 3 &#8211; 2 in Bluewater leauge action&#8230;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To get this information you have to listen to Steve Sabourin at  CKNX&#8230;the voice for sports in Western Ontario.<br \/>\n<strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Coming up&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Game of the Week&#8230;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I did catch a few innings of the Breslau Badgers vs Sebringville Sting  game on Tuesday nite at Breslau Stadium.  Looking at the South Perth Standings you have to think that the Badgers would come out of  top&#8230;and they almost did, losing 4 &#8211; 3 to the Sting.  Sebringville held a 4 to zip lead til the 6th, when Breslau, again just like last week, Ben Wideman  and Brandon Horn knocked a few hits together and got the Badgers rolling only to fall  short.<\/p>\n<p>Don Scott got the win, and Cody Skelton  took a tough loss. Don Scott was knocking the ball around the old ball yard when he was at bat<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, the Sting are looking stronger, and this Sunday they are up against the Wellington Sox who are top of the South Perth heap.  I hope to make it to  Mitchell, double header, Sox vs Sting&#8230;1 and  3 pm&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>ALSO   In Owen Sound..the iSC travel league weekend double headers with Owen Sound, Jarvis, and Port Elgin teams at McLennan Park.  This is the site  of the this years Softball Canada senior men&#8217;s championships&#8230;.and maybe the return of Ryan Wolfe.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe 39th Brussels Fastball Tournament&#8230;.and Brussels is showing off their brand new ball  park.
