\nFredericton and area fastpitch fans stepped up to the plate so Wayne Brown wouldn’t have to eat his words.<\/p>\n

Back in mid-June – almost two months before the Pepsi U19 Men’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship would unfold at Prospect Street Park, Brown made a bold statement.<\/p>\n

“I believe we’re heading toward – and you can quote me on this – the most successful national championship in Softball Canada history,” Brown told me. “That’s what we’re hoping for and that’s what we’re looking at right now.”<\/p>\n

Brown was confident enough to add: “I’d like to net $30,000 to $40,000. Whether we can do it or not I don’t know, but in the back of my mind, that’s what I’m shooting for.”<\/p>\n

After the story appeared in the paper the next day, people wondered if Brown had gone too far. The gist of those questioning Wayne’s wisdom went something like this: “I know Wayne means well, but that puts an awful lot of pressure on everyone.
