{"id":15537,"date":"2011-11-18T14:20:11","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T22:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=15537"},"modified":"2011-11-18T14:20:56","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T22:20:56","slug":"penese-iosefo-guides-keas-to-major-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=15537","title":{"rendered":"Penese Iosefo guides Keas to major win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Cap tip Blair Setford <\/em><figure id=\"attachment_8270\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8270\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"Penese Iosefo guides Keas to major win\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/The-Press-NZ.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"The Press NZ\" width=\"160\" height=\"47\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8270\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click logo for original news story<\/figcaption><\/figure><em>TONY SMITH <\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nBlack Sox pitcher Penese Iosefo showed his class as he steered Richmond Keas to their first major softball tournament trophy this season.<\/p>\n<p>The right-handed hurler won the most-valuable-player award after hurling Richmond to the Show Weekend Classic yesterday at the Mainland Foundation ballpark.<\/p>\n<p>Iosefo threw a no-hitter yesterday as Richmond beat the Papanui Tigers 3-0 in the Classic final at Mainland Foundation Ball Park.<\/p>\n<p>He struck out 12 Papanui hitters with only two Tigers making solid contact \u2013 Black Sox infielder Tyron Bartorillo with a big blast errored in rightfield and Callum Muir with a drive taken just inside the centrefield fence.<\/p>\n<p>If Iosefo was Richmond&#8217;s defensive star, his team-mate Clayton Ellis was the main man on offence, batting in all three runs. The experienced catcher collected a RBI sacrifice fly to bring Iosefo home with bases loaded in the second inning.<\/p>\n<p>Ellis drove in Phil Mountford and Josh Harbrow with a leftfield double in the fourth frame as Richmond registered three back-to-back safe hits.<\/p>\n<p>Papanui pitcher Scott Sutherland otherwise put the brakes on the Richmond batters, allowing just five hits overall, including two by Harbrow.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian second baseman Blake Hunter produced the most spectacular fielding play of the final with a sprawling catch to deny Papanui&#8217;s Paul Barker a Texas leaguer single and protect Iosefo&#8217;s no-hitter.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond Keas avenged their Nelson Labour Weekend tournament final defeat to the PCU Devils by beating them 5-1 in the Show Weekend semifinal.<\/p>\n<p>Richmond scored all five runs in the third inning.
