The top four teams from the pool play round get a &#8220;double life&#8221;, i.e. New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>Many of us in the USA are accustomed to &#8220;double-elimination&#8221; format, where the top teams play the lowest seeded teams first, and don&#8217;t play each other til the end. The # 1 seed would play the #8 seed, #2 would play #7 and so forth.<\/p>\n<p>In the ISF\/double life format, the top teams face each other in the first round (Canada vs. Venezuela and Australia v. New Zealand), but those four get &#8220;two lives&#8221;, meaning they are still alive even after one loss.  On the other hand, the other four (lower seeded teams, USA, Argentina, Japan and Samoa) get only one life.  Lose one, go home.<\/p>\n<p>The 2013 ISF World Championships started with 16 teams, two pools of 8.
