This Week in Fastball by Dennis Dosman<\/figcaption><\/figure>ONTARIO CHALLENGE CUP IN PALMERSTON –<\/strong>
\nFastball Fans, The Laverne Reichert OCC will bring an end to the
\nfastpitch season ….<\/p>\n

Here is the last tournament of the year…..the Ontario Challenge Cup
\nset for this weekend at Palmerston….a few miles north of
\nDrayton…..at a great ball yard on the south side of the town……..<\/p>\n

14 teams, as usual….and all pennant winners, finalists and league
\nchampions from the fastball leagues around Ontario.<\/p>\n

There are bragging rights and beths to the ISC World tournament up for
\ngrabs. With the ISC World Fastball championship tournament in nearby
\nKitchener next year…this is a big event to win for one of these teams..<\/p>\n

Games begin on Friday nite…<\/p>\n

Breslau RiverDogs of the South Perth League..vs the KFL Tri City Jays<\/p>\n

Woodstock Kelsey’s vs Selkirk Steelers<\/p>\n

Walton Brewers vs the host club..Wellington Sox,<\/p>\n

Lake Simcoe Lightning, vs Brampton A’s<\/p>\n

Diamond Jazz of the Kitchener Fastball League..vs the Mildmay Mets<\/p>\n

Elmira Expos another South Perth League team up against the Ponsonby
\nSting, InterCounty champs<\/p>\n

Wiarton Nationals and Sheddon Mission have the first round byes…<\/p>\n

Games will continue all day Saturday in Palmerston…with Championship
\nplay on Sunday…<\/p>\n

It looks like a great weekend…Palmerston is a nice drive north of
\nKitchener, Elmira and Drayton…There will be food and beverages
\navailable..and it looks like a great weekend to bring the ball season to
\na close…<\/p>\n

ISC LEGENDS AND UNDER 21 results – Moline Illinois<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tavistock went 0 for 4 in pool play. Elmira 37s went 1 and 3..<\/p>\n

Tavistock got their first win of the tournament against Elmira a 4 – 1
\nscore….
\nAlvinston then beat Tavi….12 – 10, and Midland Mich, over Wiarton Red
\nDevils 9 – 4, to set up the final Alvinston Indians vs Midland…..and
\nthe Jr. Explorers came out on top…3 – 0<\/p>\n

Lots of issues with the ISC U21s…short staffed teams, eligible players
\nunavailable for the junior teams while their senior teams were on the
\nfield…<\/p>\n

It was a long and very competitive summer for most of the teams and
\nplayers out of Ontario..<\/p>\n

Eight teams competed in the ISC Canada East championship at Kitchener in
\nJune. That was followed immediately with the 5 day long Ontario Amatuer
\nSoftball championships in Owen Sound…an Softball Ontario try out camp
\nin New Dundee took up another weekend…, the ISF tournament for many of
\nthe Ontario players in Saskatchewan, another week long
\ntournament…followed by the Softball Canada championships back in Owen
\nSound, another 5 day tournament……and then off to the ISCs. Many of
\nthese players also participated with their local intermediate teams in
\nleague play and tournaments. A lot of ball, and the scores and play in
\nMoline reflected that…<\/p>\n

ISC II AWARDS – Quad Cities..<\/strong><\/p>\n

Andy Jackson of Wiarton picked up one of the 3 All Tournament Team
\nPitcher awards and Most Outstanding Pitcher award as well.<\/p>\n

Jamie Boyd of Shakespeare, Brent Thompson of Wiarton and Jeff Bassindale
\nof Hickson Reds were All – Tournament infielders…<\/p>\n

Adam Struck of Wiarton picked up one of the 4 outfield All Tournament
\nnominations…and teammate, Travis Jones picked up the Designated Player
\naward…posting 10 RBIs…
\nSteffen Walma of the Wyevale Tribe was top batter…a .538 average..<\/p>\n

CANADIANS IN STRATFORD<\/strong><\/p>\n

3 Cheers Pub won the Canadian Fastpitch tournament in Stratford..<\/p>\n

3 Cheers….defeated Scarborough Force 5 – 4 in the Canadian
\nchampionship game.<\/p>\n

They scored those 5 runs on 8 hits…Scarborough picked up their 4 runs
\non 2 hits…both homers..<\/p>\n

Scarborough got out to an early 2 – 0 lead in the 3rd inning…..a walk
\nto Jake Taylor, and a Craig Buttar 2 run homer off Sean Cleary.<\/p>\n

In the home half of the 3rd inning…Ryan Boland reached with a
\nsingle…and was scored by Jason Gill…2 – 1 Scarborough<\/p>\n

Ian Fehrman doubled and a 2 run homer from Jason Hill put 3 Cheers in
\nfront..3-2 after 4 innings..<\/p>\n

Scarborough …a walk to Buttar and a 2 run homer from Brandon Horn…4
\n– 3 for the Force after 5 1\/2…<\/p>\n

Steve Mullaley scored in the 6th to tiem the game…and Brad Ezekiel a
\nwalk off homer to lead off the bottom of the 7th…game over and a
\nsecond Canadian championship for 3 Cheers…<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day..the Kitchener Cubs defeated Don Cherry’s 5 – 3.<\/p>\n

Don Cherry’s opened with a lead off homer from Pokoway..<\/p>\n

Dale Levy and Ben Wideman scored for the Cubs in the 2nd…Red with a
\nhomer and Ben a triple and scored by Mike Grant…that put the Cubs back
\nin the lead.<\/p>\n

The Cubs scored one run in the 3rd…Adam Hiller a triple, and Rowan Lam
\nanother triple to score Hiller..in the 4th…Ben Wideman a solo home run…<\/p>\n

John Kelly and Brian Clark scored for Don Cherry’s in the 4th…4 – 3
\nCubs…going into the 7th…<\/p>\n

Ben Wideman a double and scored by Allen Phibbs…final Cubs 5 – Don
\nCherry’s 3.<\/p>\n

The Cubs then met Scarborough..the winner to play 3 Cheers in the
\nchampionship game…<\/p>\n

Scarborough opened in the first…one run…Brandon Horn 2 bagger…and
\nAndy Skelton a 3B RBI…
\nIn the 2nd…Mark Johnston a 2 bagger, and Jake Taylor a RBI single.<\/p>\n

Cubs got on board in the 2nd…tying the game…Grant Baechler and
\nTravis Hofstetter. scoring on Adam Hillers RBIS…<\/p>\n

In the 3rd…Scarborough picked up 3 runs..Brandon Horn a single..Andy
\nSkelton a triple and RBI, Jeremy Tracey a double and RBI and Dave
\nBrownhill a RBI single…5 – 3 Scarborough Force…after 3..<\/p>\n

A scoreless 4th…<\/p>\n

Scarborough homered to 9 – 3 lead after 4 1\/2…Jeremy Tracey
\nwalked…Andrew Scott a 2 run homer followed by back to back homers from
\nMark Johnson, and Dave Brownhill.<\/p>\n

Cubs 3rd baseman, Dan Mitchell homered in the 5th..9 – 4 Force ahead.<\/p>\n

Andy Skelton picked up another RBI with a double scoring Nick Dambrosio..<\/p>\n

Nothing in the 6th…for the Cubs….<\/p>\n

and nothing in the 7th for the Force<\/p>\n

The home half of the 7th…and Cubs lead off with a homer from Rowan
\nLam…Bob Gillow singles, Dan Mitchell doubles, both score on Red
\nLevy’s single. ..<\/p>\n

Final score for the semi final…Force 10 and Cubs 7…<\/p>\n

Congratulations to 3 Cheers on the gold, Scarborough who picked up the
\nsilver..and the Cubs who picked up the bronze…3 great ball
\nteams…tops in Canada..<\/p>\n

See you in Palmerston this weekend..<\/p>\n
