{"id":26172,"date":"2015-05-06T17:21:49","date_gmt":"2015-05-07T00:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=26172"},"modified":"2015-05-06T17:25:21","modified_gmt":"2015-05-07T00:25:21","slug":"senior-mens-fastball-league-returns-to-sooke-bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=26172","title":{"rendered":"Senior men&#8217;s fastball league returns to Sooke (BC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sookenewsmirror.com\/sports\/302577751.html\" target=\"_blank\">From the Sooke News Mirror   <\/a><br \/>\n<em>by  Octavian Lacatusu <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sookies, big and small, gathered at the Art Morris diamond last week to get a glimpse of the new senior men\u2019s fastball league \u2014 a sport that\u2019s been on hiatus in Sooke for almost 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Complete with four teams (the Pirates, Hammers, Browns and Hustlers) and a whole row of passionate individuals, it seems it\u2019s here to stay this time; and best part is, it\u2019s created by fastball fans for other fastball fans \u2014 as well as the community as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>And that was the whole idea really\u2014 bringing people together, says Andrew Medwedrich, manager of the Browns team.<br \/>\n<span class=\"pullquote\"><br \/>\n\u201cWe want to get the ball back in Sooke and try and get the kids back into it &#8211; because that\u2019s what matters,\u201d <\/span> he said, adding that fast pitch in general has died down so much in the last few years that not bringing it back would otherwise be detrimental for the local community. \u201cIf we can keep the kids out of trouble and maybe help upgrade the park, then we\u2019re hopefully doing our job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got so many kids here from Sooke that once they\u2019re done their minor ball, they got nowhere to go,\u201d he said. \u201cYou either go play slow-pitch or you\u2019re back doing nothing and getting yourself into trouble somewhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sookenewsmirror.com\/sports\/302577751.html\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to read the complete story and view photo.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Sooke News Mirror by Octavian Lacatusu Sookies, big and small, gathered at the Art Morris diamond last week to get a glimpse of the new senior men\u2019s fastball league \u2014 a sport that\u2019s been on hiatus in Sooke for almost 20 years.
