{"id":28068,"date":"2015-07-19T14:57:54","date_gmt":"2015-07-19T21:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=28068"},"modified":"2015-07-19T14:57:54","modified_gmt":"2015-07-19T21:57:54","slug":"ezekiel-cleary-do-some-spade-work-canada-mines-pan-am-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=28068","title":{"rendered":"Ezekiel, Cleary do some spade work, Canada mines Pan Am gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetelegram.com\/Sports\/2015-07-18\/article-4218404\/Ezekiel%2C-Cleary-do-some-spade-work%2C-Canada-mines-Pan-Am-gold\/1\" target=\"_blank\">From The Telegram<\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Host team &#8211; with large Newfoundland contingent \u2014 beats Venezuela 2-1 in final<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a huge win for Canada, for Newfoundland \u2026 and for Harbour Main.<br \/>\nThat\u2019s because two players from that Conception Bay Central community \u2014 Brad Ezekiel and Sean Cleary \u2014 played big roles as Canada defeated Venezuela 2-1 in Ajax, Ont., today in the gold-medal final of men\u2019s softball at the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n<p>Ezekiel drove in both of Canada\u2019s runs with a sixth-inning homer over the centre field fence and Cleary tossed a complete-game three hitter as the host team finished up a perfect Pan Am week \u2014 seven wins in seven games \u2014 with its second major championship win in as two weeks. Team Canada also won the gold medal at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) championship in Saskatoon earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Ezekiel, Cleary, Jason Hill of St. John\u2019s, Ryan Boland of Goulds and Freshwater (Placentia) native Stephen Mullaley are members of the Canadian national team, with John Hill of St. John\u2019s and Les Howey of C.B.S. are assistant coaches.<\/p>\n<p>Cleary was the winning pitcher in four of Canada\u2019s seven Pan Am victories, including a one-hitter in a 2-0 shutout of Argentina Friday night in their first game of the Page playoffs. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetelegram.com\/Sports\/2015-07-18\/article-4218404\/Ezekiel%2C-Cleary-do-some-spade-work%2C-Canada-mines-Pan-Am-gold\/1\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to continue reading at The Telegram and to view photo.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Telegram Host team &#8211; with large Newfoundland contingent \u2014 beats Venezuela 2-1 in final It was a huge win for Canada, for Newfoundland \u2026 and for Harbour Main.
