{"id":29406,"date":"2016-03-22T10:38:02","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T17:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=29406"},"modified":"2016-03-22T10:38:02","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T17:38:02","slug":"wairarapa-hitters-bat-hutt-valley-dodgers-to-national-softball-crown-in-nelson-nz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=29406","title":{"rendered":"Wairarapa hitters bat Hutt Valley Dodgers to national softball crown in Nelson (NZ)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/sport\/other-sports\/78071969\/wairarapa-hitters-bat-hutt-valley-dodgers-to-national-softball-crown-in-nelson\" target=\"_blank\">From Stuff.co.nz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>by TONY SMITH<\/p>\n<p>Wairarapa softball products <strong>Blair Thompson<\/strong> and <strong>Danny Brown<\/strong> starred as the Hutt Valley Dodgers clinched their third national interclub men&#8217;s softball title.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson blasted a second inning solo shot home run and Brown batted in two runs in the seventh frame during the Dodgers&#8217; 3-1 win over six-time champions Ramblers in Sunday&#8217;s grand final in Nelson.<\/p>\n<p>It was the Dodgers&#8217; first win since 2013 and victory was sweet for coaches Steve Deans and Trevor Evans, who played in the Dodgers&#8217; first title triumph in Christchurch in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Black Sox hurler Nik Hayes won the top pitcher and most valuable player awards after throwing Hutt Valley Dodgers to their third national interclub title in Nelson on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The winning squad contained a clutch of Hutt Valley softball stalwarts, led by Black Sox stars <strong>Nik Hayes<\/strong> (pitcher) and <strong>Joel Evans<\/strong> (shortstop), who celebrated his fourth national title after winning first with Hutt City United in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers camp hailed Hayes, who won the tournament top pitcher and most valuable player awards for his dominance on the pitching mound and some timely hits with the bat.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"pullquote\">&#8220;Nik did really well for us,&#8221; captain Joel Evans said. &#8220;He pitched something ridiculous, like 68 innings, this week.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuff.co.nz\/sport\/other-sports\/78071969\/wairarapa-hitters-bat-hutt-valley-dodgers-to-national-softball-crown-in-nelson\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to continue reading and to view photos at Stuff.co.nz<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Stuff.co.nz by TONY SMITH Wairarapa softball products Blair Thompson and Danny Brown starred as the Hutt Valley Dodgers clinched their third national interclub men&#8217;s softball title.
