Chason tossed six innings of shutout ball and allowed only two hits.

“I was aggressive in the zone and trusted the pitch call,” Chason said about his performance.

On the second day of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Men’s Softball World Championship, Team USA jumped on the board early offensively with two runs in the first inning. After Bryce DuCharme (Hudson, Wis.) reached first on a single to left field, DuCharme scored USA’s first run of the game following a fielder’s choice and error. Entering the game as a courtesy runner for Peyton Hall (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) who reached on error, Isaac Hormann (Young America, Minn.) stole second and third to quickly put himself in scoring position. With Brogan Potter (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) at the plate for Team USA, Hormann scored USA’s second run after a passed ball prior to the final out of the inning.

The score remained 2-0 until the top of the third inning when DuCharme drew a walk, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Fans would see No. 15 once again tack on a run to USA’s lead after DuCharme made it home following a wild pitch.

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Jeff Lewis (Amboy, Minn.) hit a single and took advantage of Botswana, reaching third and eventually scoring USA’s fourth run of the game on a single by Matthew Martin. Before Botswana could get the third out, Martin would add another to the board after a passed ball and a single to right field by Jonathan Broadbear (Bloomington, Ill.).

The sixth inning would prove to be a success offensively for Team USA as the JMNT scored on an RBI single by Matthew Martin, an RBI single by Broadbear, an error, an RBI single by DuCharme, an RBI single by Brady Parker (Midland, Tex.), a two-run single by Devin Martin (Stevens, Pa.), and a two-run single by Michael Douds (Erie, Pa.).

Chason held Botswana scoreless through the game, combining for 13 strikeouts to hoist the USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team to their first win of the 2016 WBSC Junior Men’s World Championship. Team USA will resume action tomorrow when they take the field against Denmark at 1 p.m. ET and again at 8 p.m. ET for their game against the Czech Republic.

For an updated schedule, live stats, streaming and more, click here | Box Score

About ASA/USA Softball
Founded in 1933, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball is the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States and a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
