Mastodons chasing gold this week in Saskatchewan as Sr. Canadians get underway<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n
\u00a0BROOKFIELD, N.S. \u2013 Patrick Stewart is hoping softball history will repeat itself at the Canadian senior men\u2019s fastpitch championship this week in Saskatoon, Sask.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Stewart is a Brookfield resident who will play at the national tournament for the East Hants Mastodons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In 1980, Stewart\u2019s hometown Brookfield Elks won Nova Scotia\u2019s first national senior men\u2019s title in Saskatoon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s where the Elks won it in 1980, so it would be huge for me and the other Brookfield guys to do the same; it\u2019d be a huge honour,\u201d said Stewart, a first-baseman for the Mastodons.<\/div>\n

\u00a0Stewart, 32, was a member of the East Hants squad that finished third at the national competition last year and second in 2015. He\u2019s optimistic about his team\u2019s chances of success this week.\u201cI think we\u2019re very good,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got pitching and this year I think we\u2019re a lot better than the last two or three years because we\u2019ve got more guys coming off the bench.
