{"id":32352,"date":"2018-07-12T12:03:59","date_gmt":"2018-07-12T19:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=32352"},"modified":"2018-07-12T12:30:58","modified_gmt":"2018-07-12T19:30:58","slug":"so-cals-jason-obregon-jr-competing-on-world-stage-at-2018-wbsc-jr-mens-world-championship-at-prince-albert-sasketchewan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=32352","title":{"rendered":"So Cal&#8217;s Jason Obregon Jr. competing on world stage at 2018 WBSC Jr. Men\u2019s World Championship at Prince Albert, Sasketchewan"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_32355\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32355\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ObregonJason.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32355\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ObregonJason.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ObregonJason.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ObregonJason-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-32355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jason Obregon, Jr. USA Jr. Men&#8217;s Team 2018<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The name is familiar to many who play men\u2019s fastball in the Southern California:\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Jason Obregon<\/strong>.\u00a0 But this one has a \u201cJr.\u201d after it, son of well know fastballer Jason Obregon.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Obregon Sr. and his brother Tommy have been among the top talents in Southern California for a good while, playing in the SCIFL, and at the National tournament level.<\/p>\n<p>But now it is <strong>Jason Obregon Jr<\/strong>. getting some well-deserved attention as a rising young star, and now member of the USA Junior men&#8217;s national softball team competing in the 2018 WBSC Junior Men&#8217;s World Softball Championship in Prince Albert Saskatchewan, July 7 through July 15.<\/p>\n<p>The USA team currently sits at 2-2, losing to the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the world, New Zealand and Canada, and defeating Hong Kong and Guatemala.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason Obregon, Jr<\/strong>. contributed to the win over Hong Kong in a big way with a three run home run.<\/p>\n<p>The squad will continue in their quest to qualify for the medal round, taking on a tough opponent, the Czech Republic who is also 2-2.\u00a0 \u00a0The top four teams will advance to the medal round which starts Friday, July 13.\u00a0 \u00a0Tonight&#8217;s game will likely decide the 3rd and 4th place finishers for Pool B, with Canada and New Zealand advancing as 1 and 2, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Ernesto Obregon Jr has been involved in the game a fast pitch since the time he was born, a third-generation fastballer.\u00a0 Jason\u2019s grandfather, Tom Obregon played the game, and passed it on to his two sons, Jason (Sr.) and Tommy (Jason Jr&#8217;s uncle)<\/p>\n<p>As a youngster Jason Junior had the chance to watch some of the greatest players in the game, including Hall of Famers Todd Budke and Greg Sepulveda.<\/p>\n<p>Jason got his feet wet in the Montebello, California Sunday league when he was 14 years old, moving on to join his father\u2019s team in nearby Colton California as he matured and developed.\u00a0 In addition to fastball, Jason Jr. was a four-year varsity baseball player is high school.\u00a0 \u00a0But his passion was for fastball and the spark was lit as he continued to progress.<\/p>\n<p>As Jason Jr. grew up, so did his fastball talents.\u00a0\u00a0 Jason Jr. found himself playing at the next level, against, and alongside such players as Kevin Castillo, a member of the USA Men\u2019s team.\u00a0\u00a0 Jason\u2019s fastball exploits took him to national tournaments in North Dakota, and eventually earned him a tryout with the USA Jr Men\u2019s National Softball team.<\/p>\n<p>At the tender age of 18, Jason Jr. now finds himself on the world stage, in Prince Albert Saskatchewan Canada this week, competing for the USA Junior national team in the 2018 WBSC Jr. Men\u2019s Softball World Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Jr. describes the experience as \u201cthe opportunity of a life time\u201d.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m honored to be able to put the USA across my chest; it\u2019s the greatest feeling I&#8217;ve ever have had.
