Prague, Czech Republic \u2014 Members of the 2018 USA Softball Men\u2019s National Team (MNT) have landed in Prague for the Intercontinental Cup.\u00a0 Dubbed \u201cThe Battle of the Continents\u201d, Team USA will face off against Argentina, host country Czech Republic, Denmark, Japan and reigning World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Champions New Zealand in the five-day event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe like the concept of the Intercontinental Cup because it allows us to play in a very competitive event leading into next year\u2019s World Championship,\u201d said Head Coach Gregg Leather (Staten Island, N.Y.).\u00a0 \u201cWe bring a strong and experienced offensive team that will have to put up some runs and play exceptional defense behind our pitching.\u00a0 The key for us will be our pitchers keeping the ball in the park and letting our defense work for them. If we can do that, we will do well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team USA will open the Intercontinental Cup Tuesday, August 28 with a 10:30 a.m. CEST (3:30 a.m. CT) game against No. 11 Denmark before playing No. 1 New Zealand at 4:30 p.m. CEST (9:30 a.m. CT) later that day. The Red, White and Blue are also scheduled to play No. 4 Argentina at 10:30 a.m. CEST (3:30 a.m. CT) on August 29, No. 7 Czech Republic at 7:30 p.m. CEST (12:30 p.m. CT) on August 30 and No. 3 Japan at 4:30 p.m. CEST (9:30 a.m. CT) on August 31.\u00a0 Round robin action will determine Championship rounds on September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Announced in March as the Head Coach of the 2018 Intercontinental Cup roster, Leather will be joined by Greg Hicks (Bakersfield, Calif.), Nick McCurry (Ashland, Ohio) and Ron Guzman (Salinas, Calif.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
