North Vancouver\u2019s Derek Mayson has been picking up grounders and crushing dingers for Canada\u2019s national team for nearly two decades, and this week he\u2019s stepping to the plate for his final tournament, the WBSC Men\u2019s Softball World Cup. The 38-year-old has two young children at home and said it\u2019s time to focus on the family, but not before he pulls on the Maple Leaf jersey one more time at the World Cup, running Nov. 26-Dec. 4 in New Zealand<\/a>. Representing Canada has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, he told the North Shore News from New Zealand as he was preparing to hit the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been my sole goal in the sport, really, since I knew that there was a national team,\u201d he said. \u201cIt brings me an enormous sense of pride to be able to represent our country, represent our community, all the players that I\u2019ve played with over the years and coaches, as well as my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
