The Stompers<\/strong> got their spot the hard way, with a hotly contested winner’s quarterfinal win over #7 ranked AWP, 5-3 in 10 innings. Huemul Mata went the distance for the winners, striking out 14 and allowing 7 hits, while Kuba Osicka and Marco Diaz shared duties in the losing cause for the AWP Lumberjacks. Lumberjacks’ veteran Sisko Sabata had a key double in the bottom of the sixth, to tie the game at 3, and eventually into extra innings where the two teams battled until the 10th when Dylan Cunningham double in what proved to be the winning run. Juan Zara drove in an insurance run in the 10th with a fielder’s choice. Marco Diaz took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on 6 hits, striking out 10 and walking three. Kuba Osicka was the starter, and re-entered the game, giving up one run on 7 hits, striking out 7 while walking 2. Blaine Milheim was 3 for 6 for the Stompers to lead Niagara hitters. Niagara’s Teo Migliavacca had 2 RBI for the victors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n #3 ranked Hill United<\/strong> had an easier time of their winner’s bracket quarterfinal game, an 11-0 win over #27 ranked RM Kurtz Enterprises, the Cinderella of the tournament thus far, having knocked off #6 ranked JB and #11 ranked OMMA Tigers in successive games. Michael Holobradek picked up the win for the Chiefs, surrendering but one hit over 4 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Erik Chapparo took the loss for Kurtz, giving up the first three runs on one hit in three innings pitched. Joran Graham and Juan Potolicchio both tossed innings in relief for the Chiefs as they cruised to the 11-0 win. The Chiefs pounded out 12 hits on the night, putting the game away in the 6th inning with a 7 run outburst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There were no upsets on Wednesday, with the rankings playing out according to Hoyle.
