(@WBSC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WBSC\/status\/1762824610456682906?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 28, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;We know it&#8217;s going to be incredibly tough to finish top two in our pool to get to the 2025 World Cup Finals but we are excited about the athleticism and potential of the individuals we have selected,&#8221; said head coach Kiri Shaw.<br>Softball New&nbsp;Zealand&nbsp;announced&nbsp;the names of the 16 athletes who have been selected to contest the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbsc.org\/en\/events\/2024-ii-u-18-womens-softball-world-cup-group-a\/home\"><strong>WBSC U-18 Women&#8217;s Softball&nbsp;World Cup<\/strong><\/a>. The Junior White Sox will open the tournament in&nbsp;Group A, to be played at&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbsc.org\/en\/events\/2024-ii-u-18-womens-softball-world-cup-group-a\/news\/sao-paulo-brazil-to-host-wbsc-u-18-womens-softball-world-cup-group-stage-from-23-to-27-july-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Estadio Municipal de Beisebol Mie Nishi<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;in Sao&nbsp;Paulo, Brazil, from 23 to 27&nbsp;July.&nbsp;<br><br><strong>The 2024 New Zealand Junior White Sox team is as follows;&nbsp;<\/strong><br><br>Clover Alapaki<br>Mckenzie Bailey-McDowell<br>Siobhan Bolger<br>Savannah-Lee Farrar<br>Yvanni Gibson<br>Angela Harrison<br>Caitlin Henderson<br>Maysen Kurene-Iwikau<br>Poppy Priddle<br>Kaiyah Ratu<br>Maggie Shields<br>Penny Starr<br>Waimarie Tawera<br>Maiarangi Waipara<br>Trinity Waiwiri-Toka<br>Jayda Walters-Rangitihi<br><br>This selection includes four non-travelling reserves: Abigail Church, Iris Feng, Jaimee Hoani and Riana Hill.<br>&#8220;It is a mixture of experience, players that have been in the Junior White Sox program for 2-3 years, with some exciting new younger talent that have really stood out this season and been consistent with their performance,&#8221; said head coach Kiri Shaw.&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Notes:<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kaiyah Ratu<\/strong> is the daughter of New Zealand Black Sox player Stephen Ratu.  North Americans will remember that Stephen played in the ISC with Patsys for a number of years.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>McKenzie Bailey-McDowell<\/strong> is the daughter of 2000 New Zealand White Sox Olympian Jayde Bailey at the Sydney Australia Games. McKenzie is also the youngest sister of Nerrisa, who played for the New Zealand White Sox at last year&#8217;s World Cup Group stage in Italy last year.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Head Coach Kiri Shaw<\/strong> was teammate of Bailey at the Olympics and daughter of New Zealand White Sox World Champion Captain <strong>Naomi Shaw<\/strong>, New Zealand&#8217;s only World Cup Gold in 1982.  <strong> Naomi<\/strong> is a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) award in the Queen&#8217;s Birthday honours.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the WBSC Editor&#8217;s Notes: Kaiyah Ratu is the daughter of New Zealand Black Sox player Stephen Ratu.
