\nThe New Zealand White Sox softball team made it two wins from as many games in the Edebone Weber and Gilley’s shields competitions in Waverley, Victoria yesterday.<\/p>\n

They followed up a 8-3 win over ACT with a 4-2 win over Victoria.<\/p>\n

The Gilley’s Shield involves the leading women’s players from the six Australian state sides and the New Zealand national team. The games are played over 10 rounds and conclude with a finals weekend in January.<\/p>\n

The Edebone-Weber Shield is held in conjunction with that competition.<\/p>\n

The White Sox are in sixth place going into the weekend’s games.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Two losses<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe New Zealand women’s softball team posted two losses at the Edebone-Weber and Gilley’s shields competitions in Waverley, Victoria, today.<\/p>\n

The White Sox went down 4-5 to Queensland and 1-6 to competition leaders New South Wales.<\/p>\n

The Gilley’s Shield involves six Australian state sides and the New Zealand national team.<\/p>\n

The games are played over 10 rounds and conclude with a finals weekend in January. The Edebone-Weber Shield is held in conjunction with that competition.<\/p>\n

The New Zealanders yesterday beat ACT 8-3 and Victoria 4-2<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nNew White Sox squad named
\n9 December<\/p>\n

White Sox Head Coach Naomi Shaw has taken the opportunity afforded to her under the rules of the Gillies Shield to name a new squad of 22 players for the final round in Perth. The squad of 22 includes a mix of youth and experience with the inclusion of seven Junior White Sox squad members and eight players who competed at the Women’s World Championships earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Also included in the squad is American pitcher Jennifer Feret who has been playing for the Auckland based Western Magpies team. Shaw was in Auckland last weekend watching players and was impressed with Feret. Her inclusion comes after an exemption to the eligibility criteria was sought and approved due to the unavailability of Megan Farrell for the 3rd round of games.<\/p>\n

Fifteen players from the squad will be named to travel to Perth after the second round of games being played in Melbourne next weekend, December 17th – 19th. At the same time, Shaw will name her test team which will contest a 3 match test series against the Australians at the conclusion of the Edebone-Weber\/Gillies Shield. The Perth tour runs from 4th to 9th January, with the test matches being contested on the 8th and 9th. Australia have named a full strength line up for the test series.<\/p>\n
