{"id":8083,"date":"2011-02-13T15:17:10","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T23:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=8083"},"modified":"2012-02-14T07:30:47","modified_gmt":"2012-02-14T15:30:47","slug":"8083","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fastpitchwest.com\/?p=8083","title":{"rendered":"SCIFL &#8211; January 2011 Meeting Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MINUTES SCIFL LEAGUE MEETING<br \/>\nJanuary 30, 2011<br \/>\n <strong><br \/>\n*Recap of last meeting by Robert Hernandez &#038; David Carrillo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In attendance<\/strong>: David Carrillo, Robert Hernandez, Leo Lambert, Michael Sherman, Cecillo Smalling, Tom Dudley, Mario Rameriz, Kalani Ongasis, Paul Janasko, Lou Enriquez, Fernie Ramirez, Sr, Richie Lopes, Ron Kirby, Mitch Mendenhal, Doug Rooney, Rudy Montenez<\/p>\n<p>Meeting called to order at 10:05 AM<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez motioned to have the voting for a new UIC moved to the beginning of the meeting in the event any voting was required.  The motion was seconded and the voting to have Kalani Ongasis assume the duties of the UIC on a full-time basis was approved unanimously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2011 SCIFL Season<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Costs<\/strong><br \/>\nCosts will remain at $410 per tournament and $400 for Las Vegas.  The one-time a season registration fee will remain at $20 and payable at a team\u2019s first tournamentHernandez made comment that an additional $25 will be paid to Manny Lopez to take down the new fence on Saturday night and put back up on Sunday morning to prevent theft.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez mentioned that for the final weekend the Sports Complex in Hemet is reserved.  However, they are asking for a non-refundable fee and this tournament has been cancelled many times in the past.  It was decided that we would forgo the reservation in Hemet and try to secure the Soboba fields for the tournament as there won\u2019t be that many teams playing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Formats<\/strong><br \/>\nThe format will remain the same with a four game guarantee that consist of a 3 game round robin on Sunday and single elimination on SundayHernandez mentioned that due to Santa Fe Springs changing their billing policy and having to pay the Monday prior to a tournament will make the following necessary:<\/p>\n<p>Teams will have to commit by the Saturday prior to the scheduled tournament as the schedule has to be created by MondayThe practice of having \u201cdead\u201d fields during the day to prevent triple headers will no longer be used.  He will ask for volunteers to play the triple headers if necessary and if no one wants them a drawing will take place to select the team(s).  Teams dropping out of the tournament after Monday will still be responsible for the tournament fee as the park will not provide refunds.<\/p>\n<p>Team must be ready to play 30 minutes prior to their scheduled game time, Hernandez reminded everyone that round robin games would go no longer than 9 innings.  After 9 innings the game will end in a tie and each team will receive half a point.<\/p>\n<p>Las Vegas will continue to be a 3 game guarantee using the NAFA bracket.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Locations<\/strong><br \/>\n6 tournaments in Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe Springs will charge a \u201ctrash\u201d fee this year for events which is refundable if the park is left in the same manner it was used in.  <\/p>\n<p>Hernandez mentioned that managers need to stress to their players to pick up after themselves.  If the teams leave trash and the league loses its deposit, the $250 would have to be absorbed by raising the entry feeIt was also recommended that the team hosting the snack bar for the weekend check the park both nights before leaving to make sure trash is picked upHernandez also requested the park place additional trash cans in the park.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of players coming to the park with their dogs was brought up and that while the majority pick up after them, there are a handful that don\u2019t.  All players need to pick up after their dogs or leave them at home. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Classification<\/strong><br \/>\nPitching list has been updated;<br \/>\nAdditional pitchers will be contacted to discuss their current rankings<br \/>\nPlayers changing teams;<br \/>\nHernandez explained the leagues policy for players changing teams<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lock down date<\/strong><br \/>\nThe last tournament of the season will be the lockdown date;<\/p>\n<p><strong>World Series Rosters<\/strong><br \/>\nNAFA roster is 18 players3 pickup players are allowed but cannot exceed 18 players;<br \/>\nLas Vegas champions will have their rosters frozen;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bats &#038; Balls<\/strong><br \/>\nHernandez explained that NAFA will introduce a new ball this season that has a core of .44, rather than the .47 we have used in the past.<br \/>\nOne of the benefits of the ball is that it does not \u201cexplode\u201d off the bat and gives pitchers and defensive players a chance to react.Once the new ball is in use we will use a smaller restricted bat list;<br \/>\nUntil then, the old bat list will continue to be used;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment acquired for the new season are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Field drags<br \/>\nLine markerRadar gun<br \/>\nTabletop scoring devices<br \/>\nDrills to install fences<br \/>\nNew fencing for one field<\/p>\n<p><strong>Master League<\/strong><br \/>\nThe league will have 7 teams this season<br \/>\nFirst three dates are reserved;<br \/>\nSanta Fe Springs \u2013 first two;<br \/>\nPalmdale<\/p>\n<p>NAFA will continue to use the 3 players under the age limit, no pitchers;<br \/>\nThe World Series will be located in Carson City 2011 NAFA World Series;<br \/>\nWill be located in Rockford, IL and the dates and locations were provided;<\/p>\n<p>The Open and 23 &#038; Under competitive division will be held in Madison, WI;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Umpires<\/strong><br \/>\nOngasis announced that there will be some new umpires and most of the ones we had the previous seasonFelt that we have made improvements with the staffHe will evaluate and critique their performance weekly and hopes to be able to send many to the different World Series;<\/p>\n<p>He will be available to listen to managers regarding the umpires for improvements;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hotels<\/strong><br \/>\nHernandez announced that the Buena Park Inn &#038; Suites will once again be the host hotel for tournaments played in Santa Fe Springsl<br \/>\nHe encourages teams that have players that travel to use the hotel as it helps the league;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sponsorships<\/strong><br \/>\nBig O Tires will sponsor one tournament this seasonAdditional sponsors are being contacted;<br \/>\nSmalling and Carrillo gave a presentation on a Turnaround Bus Trip to State Line for additional fund raising;<br \/>\nTeams will be able to purchase spots on the buses and earn money for their teamIt will be open to both Alliance and Master teams;<\/p>\n<p>There is no limit on the amount of people with more people helping the leaguel<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez will work on a Dodger Stadium fund raiser and provide information in the near future;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Open Discussion<\/strong><br \/>\nHernandez discussed the first aid policy of the league and encourages teams to have their own first aid kits which includes ice or ice bags<\/p>\n<p>Ramirez announced that the Panteras St Valentines tournament will be the weekend of February 19 &#038;
