Saturday, November 22, 2003 @ Chula Vista Olympic Facility

The Lakewood Jets will play Team USA in a doubleheader this Saturday, November 22, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m, at the Olympic Training Facility in Chula Vista, California (see below for directions). Chula Vista is located just south of San Diego, CA.  The doubleheader is a tune-up for Team USA's upcoming trip to New Zealand for the ISF World Championships in January, 2004.

The Jets are coming off a great performance in Fernie Ramirez' Norwalk tournament in October 2003, and will feature such veteran fastpitch greats as Jerry Hoffman and Hice Stiles.  Hoffman played for the Lakewood Chameleons and Long Beach Nitehawks, helping to lead the Chameleons to the ISC World Title, and setting the record for most hits in an ISC World Tournament.  Hice Stiles was inducted in to the ISC Hall of Fame at the World Tournament in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in August, 2001.  Hice plays in the Artesia city league with his son Darren and in the ASA Masters division where his Team California won four straight 45 & Over national championships.  In 2003, he earned first team All American honors playing for the Tulsa Grey Sox in the 50 & over Nationals.

On the mound for the Jets will be Panfilo Valdez, who pitched well during the past season for Ralph Trejo's So Cal Bombers, and Cary Weiler, longtime Vista Bomber and Long Beach Nitehawks great.  Cary teamed up with the late Peter Brown on the same 45 & Over team as Stiles.  David Blackburn and Bobby Lara, two other members of the Jet's pitching staff are also slated for duty Saturday.   The Jets lineup features another familiar face, Greg Sepulveda, a Chameleon teammate of Hoffman's.  Cesar Rodriguez, of last year's So Cal Bombers will also be in the lineup for the visiting Jets.
