Rose Cup Team Profile:  Meralomas, Vancouver, B.C.

Eighty years of Tradition for Meralomas Club

The Vancouver Meraloma Club Premier Men's Fastpitch team is excited about playing in the Rose Cup Tourney.  Since we participated to the maximum allowed with the Portland Merchants at a Post NAFA party in Salem we knew we had to go.

The Lomas were 2002 Lower Mainland Premier Champs and attended the NAFA AAA with a very young squad with 8 players under 23 years old. Time and maturity has allowed us to compete at any level now. This years team at the Rose Cup sees the Lomas with Jordan Taveras returning to the club after a two month stint with Heflin. He will be returning to the Dominican after the tourney to prepare for the Pan Am Games. Kevin Schellenburg the sought after Squamish SS, Joe Robbins an up and coming hard
thrower from the Island.

Tex Egerdeen is back in forum after the terrible Industrial accident that almost cost him an arm. Mike Podmore will be behind the plate with one of Canada's best young hitters Derek Mayson at 1st and Pitching. Todd Ballard  will keep us loose at 2nd.  Another up and coming young player is Eric Baldwin in center, his quickness to the ball is hard to beat. The lomas Team is rounded out with Jim Cole, Paul and Dino Zanni, Lance Finskar, Dean Valle, Steve Mohr and Jason " I hate new technology Bats " Wright. Jason has gone through six new bats this year.  I keep telling him " Keep the Label up" it still does not work!!
Jason will be our Karaoke nominee with many Garth Brooks and Allan Jackson
songs in his repertoire.

The Meraloma club has been sponsoring amateur sports for 80 years. We have
over 500 members participating in Rugby, Basketball, Cricket, Soccer, Field
Hockey and Softall.  The Softball section has two womens , one mixed orthodox, a Premier men, Jr Mens and a recreational Development team.

Our Club wishes to thank the Portland Demarini Merchants for all the hard
work that they have put into organizing this tournament.
