Dean Waltier’s home run in extra innings, Max Montero’s pitching carries IAC Cardinals to NAFA AA-Major title
The IAC/Cardinals defeated a strong Michigan Lightning team lead by pitcher Sean Kelly. The Cardinals and the Lightning battled in extra innings before it was decided by a 2 run home run by Dean Waltier in the top of the 9th inning. The Cardinals team were led by pitchers Maxi Montero and Brady Woods.
Both pitchers pitched extremely well but Maxi Montero was a major reason for the win in the championship game. Maxi had more than 15 strikeouts and only gave up 3 hits.
The NAFA title followed an impressive 5 win, 5-3 run at the ISC World Tournament earlier in the week, capping a successful 2011 season for the club.
