Black Sox international Daniel Milne blasted two automatic home runs as the PCU Devils went on a runs rampage in the Canterbury men’s softball league.
The seasoned short stop also swatted a single and drew a walk for a perfect 1.000 batting average as the Devils thrashed the Albion Pirates 20-2 in four innings at Mainland Foundation Ballpark on Saturday.
Former Black Sox catcher Stephen Ratu also batted 1.000 as PCU mustered 16 safe hits.
Ratu also slugged a bases-loaded grand-slam home run in the first inning to set up PCU’s 9-4 win over the Papanui Tigers.
Pitcher Gareth Cook held the Tigers lineup to four safe hits.
Richmond Keas were equally imperious in the batter’s box, with Paul Stead, Aaron Risdon and Penese Iosefo hammering out-of-the-park home runs in their 11-0 four-innings win over the Halswell Hornets.
Stead, who also hit a three-bagger, batted 1.000 and pitchers Aiden Cocker and Iosefo combined for a shut-out. Player-coach Jason Croy cracked Halswell’s sole safe hit with a first-inning triple.
Halswell had earlier edged out Albion 5-3 after out-hitting the Pirates, 6-4. Lead-off batter Marty Needham had two hits for Halswell and number nine hitter James Gapper clouted a solo-shot homer for Albion.
Teenage pitcher Teremoana Elliott was in commanding form as the Albion Cardinals swept Richmond Keas 7-0 in the women’s premiership at Papanui Domain. Click here to continue reading.
