In our recent post on the photo of the 2013 World Champion New Zealand Black Sox, in Sports Illustrated, we noted that the last time (to our knowledge) the magazine mentioned men’s fastpitch was the blurb on former Team USA catcher, Todd Garcia, in “Faces in the Crowd” It was roughly ten years ago, on April 14, 2003, touting his performance at the Pan-Am games when he helped the USA beat Canada for the gold medal.

Garcia, 35, a catcher for the U.S. national team, hit two home runs to give his team a 2-1 victory over Canada and the gold medal at the Pan Am Games Qualifier in Guatemala City. In the 15-game tournament Garcia batted .484 and had six homers and 17 RBIs.
