Winning Run Scored by Jamie Shields in the bottom of the 10th inning on a Sacrifice Fly by Jeff Ellsworth
The Hill United Chiefs (Six Nations) topped New York Gremlins 1-0 in a nailbiting 10 inning championship game to capture the 2013 ISC World Tournament title late Saturday night at the Green Valley softball complex in Moline Illinois.
James Shields of the Chiefs scored the winning run in the bottom half of the 10th inning on a bang-bang play at the plate. Shields pinch ran for Cal Miller after Miller opening inning with a leadoff double. Shields advanced a third base on a ground out, prompting New York relief pitcher Sean Whitten to walk two consecutive batters, to load the bases.
That set the stage for the final confrontation between Sean Whitten and the Chiefs Jeff Ellsworth. Ellsworth lifted a fly ball to shallow right field, caught by Matthew Roy who fired a perfect strike to catcher Bryan Abrey. Shields slid in under the tag and was called safe for the game’s only run, and with it, the 2013 ISC World Tournament title.
The play the plate was hotly contested by the New York Gremlins but in the end, the call stood, and the Chiefs were the champions.
Adam Folkard continued his dominance of the New York Gremlins on Saturday night, picking up where he left off on Friday night when he tossed a 15 strikeout perfect game. On Saturday night, Folkard struck out 22 Gremlins in 10 innings, surrendering only two hits, and eighth-inning single by Jeff Goolagong, and a ninth-inning single by Wayne Laulu. His back-to-back seven inning no-hitters in the winner’s bracket final and championship game puts him in a class of one, and reestablished his undisputed ball position as the best pitcher in the world. To no one’s surprise, Folkard was named the tournament’s Outstanding Pitcher while teammate Nick Shailes was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

According to Dave Blackburn, the performance tied Dick Brubaker’s 49 year old record of 18 2\3 consecutive no-hit innings established in 1964. Was the oldest ISC individual Pitching record.
