The # 22 ranked Kitchener Bell Cartage Outlaws scored the first big upset of the 2014 ISC World Tournament, knocking off the # 10 ranked Sooke Loggers, 2-0, Sunday night in Kitchener Ontario.
The Kitchener squad scored two runs in the 5th and made them stand up for the upset victory. In the Bell Cartage Outlaws 5th, Ryan Tinney led off with a walk, advancing to third on a pinch single by Tim Dubois. Catcher Mike McCallum delivered the game winner, a 2 run double.
The Loggers loaded the bases in the sixth on a Kris Walushka single and two walks, but were unable to get the runners home. Walushka had 3 of the Loggers 4 hits in the game.
Kitchener pitcher Kyle Crawford surrendered just 4 hits while striking out 16 in the shutout win, while the Logger’s Tyson Barkman gave up just 5 hits while striking out 9, taking the loss.
