Jason Tanirau’s softball career is on a roll — broken arm and all.
The 18-year-old is making all the right moves with his recent selection in the New Zealand Junior Black Sox team for international tournaments in Australia next month and the Czech Republic in August.
A specialist short stop, Jason is looking to play his way into next year’s Junior Men’s World Championship in the United States.
A key performer with his Upper Hutt College softball sides till last year, Jason is excited about his national recognition and the opportunities ahead.
“I was aiming for this. I had set it as a goal and I can hopefully push on from here,” he said.
Jason already has two club seasons with the Hutt Valley Dodgers open premiers behind him and a history of regional age-grade selections. All up he has had s had nine years in a game he first played with the Totara Park juniors.
“Softball was always a family thing. My mum and dad played for years,” the Akatarawa teenager said.
He is a specialist short-stop and enjoys the demands of the role.
