Editor’s note: I confess that I’m not a fan of Dave Letterman but with his last show tonight after a long run, here is a show from 25 years ago, with guest, Vin Scully, discussing, among other things, pace of play in baseball. It was 1990, and Vin was starting his 41st year with the Dodgers, making him 63 years old in the clip, which starts at the 25:35 minute mark. Letterman seems a bit more engaging in his earlier years, and in good form in this clip, which was a couple of years before he lost out to Jay Leno for Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. Saw a retweet from Vin himself tonight, sharing a great comment by Jon Weisman of Dodger Insider:
I wonder if David Letterman thought he’d retire before Vin Scully when they met up for this 1990 interview.
I will give Letterman this, he was a friend and fan of the game, having many baseball players on his show over the years. Here is MLB’s Top 10 list: David Letterman’s best MLB guests
