Brandon Horn’s gold rush continued unabated as Team Canada’s reigning world championship softball squad mined its second title this month, this time at the Pan American Games.
The Waterloo native and Canada’s second baseman recorded one put-out and an assist in the field, but did not get a hit as Canada clipped Venezuela 2-1 in a pitchers’ duel at the Games Saturday.
Canadian centrefielder Blair Ezekiel, one of five Newfoundlanders on the team, delivered the telling blow with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
“I thought that should do it,” Horn, 29, a local plumber, said of the championship-winning hit. “We had Sean (Cleary) on the mound and Sean has been almost unhittable. But those last three outs did drag out a bit. Those are always the hardest outs to get.” Click here to continue reading at the Waterloo Region Record.
