Five members of the Kingston Axemen were named to the ISC II All-Tournament Team at the 2015 International Softball Congress World Tournament.
The team’s top four batters average-wise during ISC II play following the team’s elimination from the main tournament — Jamie Purdon, Jarrett Williams, Brad Pender and Jamie Thompson — plus pitcher Mitch Hardy were honoured.
The Axemen posted a 4-2 record in ISC II play after going 1-2 in the main tournament. They lost 13-6 to the Wiarton Nationals in the ISC II final on Thursday.
Kingston LF Purdon paced the team offensively with 13 hits in six games, for a .565 batting average. His hit total led all ISC II players. He hit a home run, collected four RBIs and scored six runs.
Williams, a third baseman from Newboro, had nine singles in 18 at-bats (.500) and stole three bases.
Axemen centre-fielder and lead-off batter Pender of Barrie led the team in three categories — home runs (3, which led all ISC II players), runs batted in (6) and runs scored (8, tops among ISC II players) — while hitting .409.
Designated player Jamie Thompson of Napanee had six hits, including a home run and a triple, in 17 at-bats for a .353 average. His versatility came in very handy as he also toed the rubber for two innings in the final.
Hardy, of Alberston, P.E.I., went 3-2 as he saw action on the rubber in all six of Kingston’s ISC II games. Including in his busy slate was a six-inning no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Wisconsin-based Bar on the Avenue Buzz. In 29 innings overall, he struck out 36 and posted a 2.65 earned-run average. Hardy also picked up Kingston’s only win in the ISC portion of the tournament, 3-2 over the Lloydminster, Alta., Dodgers.Click herefor Fastpitchwest’s complete report on the 2015 ISC World Tournament ISC II Bracket Individual and Team Awards.
